“Welcome Home” to Our Vietnam Veterans
I am proud of my dad! He served our country in the Vietnam War. Unfortunately, when he came home, he did not receive the kind of welcoming that our members of the military receive today. He was not welcomed with open arms or “thank you” or “welcome home.” He was looked down upon, talked negatively about, and shunned….all because he served his country when he was asked to. I learned that when I see a Vietnam Veteran, it means the world to him or her to say “Welcome Home.” Even though I wasn’t even in existence when my dad came home from the war, I just want to say I love you dad and welcome home!
I received this amazing video in my email the other day. This is the way our Vietnam Veterans should have been treated when they return home. I challenge you to watch it without tears welling up in your eyes. “Welcome Home” to all of our Vietnam Veterans and military who have served our country.
I was not compensated in any way to write this post. I write it because it’s important to me, as are the men and women who served our country.
That’s awesome darling daughter! I love you.
Chris (aka Mom)
Thanks so much for posting this- my dad was also a Vietnam vet and he has told us about his unwelcome home. So sad that they went through that after all they dealt with in Vietnam. I’ll pass on the video to him.
Thank You!
my grandfather served in the korean war and my cousins are currently serving in afghanistan. i truly believe that every american soldier fightng for our country deserves a big thank you and welcome home. we wouldnt have what we have if it wasnt for them
God Bless our Vietnam veterans!! And all veterans! Our state (South Dakota) finally completed a Vietnam Veterans Memorial a few years ago and had a very nice dedication ceremony to honor the men and women who served in Vietnam–long overdue but better late than never.
The video gave me goose bumps and tears at the same time–thanks for sharing. And tell your dad Thank You!!
I could not agree more that these men need celebrated for their bravery!
My eyes welled up as soon as I started to read this. I couldn’t agree with you more.
What a beautiful post!! I can see how this would mean a lot to a person who fought back then-They deserve to be welcomed home with loving and open arms and if people couldn’t do it back then, then I hope they are taking your example and doing it now ^.^
Thank you Shannon, that was beautiful. I felt the need to pass it on to my readers as well.
I think our country owes a huge debt of gratitude to those soldiers who went out there during a time when so much of the country was against them.
Please give your dad a big hug from me and a thank you along with a welcome home!!
Our Vietnam Veterans definitely deserve to be properly “Welcomed Home”! Thank you to all of the men and women serving our country in the Armed Forces!
