Aloha Friday #28
Welcome to this week’s edition of Aloha Friday! Thanks to Kailani at An Island Life, I participate in Aloha Friday each Friday!
In Hawaii, Aloha Friday is the day that they take it easy and look forward to the weekend. So I thought that on Fridays I would take it easy on posting, too. Therefore, I’ll ask a simple question for you to answer. Nothing that requires a lengthy response.
If you’d like to participate, just post your own question on your blog and leave your link below. Don’t forget to visit the other participants! It’s a great way to make new bloggy friends!
My question is:
Do you donate food items for Thanksgiving food drives? If so, what do you donate?
I like to donate canned goods such as corn, grean beans, stuffings, and other boxed items that can be easily prepared!! I’ll also be hosting a Virtual Food Drive through Libby’s on my site. More info to come!
I donate a bag full of groceries to make Thanksgiving dinner – vegetables, instant mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, stuffing mix, cornbread muffin mix, napkins, gravy mix & a gift card to a local grocery store to buy the turkey.
I usually give stuff that I’ll eat. Like green beans and peas and stuff. Canned gravy and broth. Stuffing, cake mix ect. pasta. Now that my daughter is old enough I let her pick out what she wants to donate.
Shannon, also where can I get the code for the Aloha Friday? I signed up for Mr. Linky too but still need to figure that one out LOL
thanks
I do donate to food drives. I usually give canned goods as well as cereal and other boxed items!
The boy scouts in our area always do a food drive. We donate canned goods, especiaaly canned pumpkin because everyone needs pumpkin pie on Thanksgiving!
The school had a food drive and the local grocery store runs one too we donate to both. When we were kids the local firemen used to drop off a turkey and a big bag of food. My mom was so grateful. So now I give back.
If we have the food, we do donate. If we don’t and come to a donation center, we give a little something money wise.
i used to try to…
You know, how you can buy a bag at the grocery store?
That was what we always did
We usually give in one of two ways, either canned goods/boxed goods, such as veggies, cranberry sauce, mac and cheese, stuffing, and I always give dog food, too – can’t forget the family pet. 🙂
Or, the local grocery store, Publix, has ready made bags that contain all the fixings inside, for a certain amount (it varies between how many people it will feed) and they will include a chicken or a turkey, with a receipt on the outside, and you just pay the amount on the receipt and they deliver the entire meal to a deserving family through a local food bank. It really is a great way to do it.
I try to when I can. Usually canned veggies and stuffing. too bad this year I can’t afford to.
I do sometimes, but mostly I invite people I know that normally would not be able to have a thanksgiving dinner to our house to join us.
