how to turn a garage into a playroom

Turning an unused garage into a playroom is a project your kids are definitely going to love! All you need is some creativity and a little bit of work to turn the garage into a children’s wonderland. We’re going to provide you with great tips and tricks on how to turn a garage into a playroom. By having a playroom, you will always know where your kids are, and they will have a place to run around and play games. One of the first things you need to do is inspect the whole garage including the garage door and the roof. If the garage door isn’t functioning properly, you may need to hire a garage door repair technician. In addition, a professional roofing service may be required if there are damages on the roofing system.

Keep the Playroom Warm

If you haven’t used your garage before this project, then it’s important to make the space warm and comfortable. One of the first things you need to do is to insulate your garage. The best insulation for garage should provide warmth during winter and cool air during summer. There are many different options of insulation, such as spray foam, Prodex, fiberglass, rigid foam, and cellulose. Also, add some insulation to the exterior walls if they aren’t already insulated.

Choose the Right Paint

To have a real transformation from a garage to a playroom, you will need to paint the floor and walls. It’s best to use specific paint that’s formulated for concrete. A lot of brands have paints for concrete, so you won’t have trouble finding it.

Look For Inspiration

You can turn your garage into many different things, such as a playroom, family room, or study space if your kids are older. However, if your kids are younger, then the playroom is the perfect decision. You can use many sources to get inspired and have an idea of how you want the playroom to turn out. Look through children’s magazines, books, and design websites. You don’t have to spend a ton of money on the playroom, as you can recycle different materials and make crafty kids’ playhouses

Decorate the Walls

Once you’ve painted the walls, you can go a step further and let your kids have some fun and decorate the walls with wall stickers. You and your kids can create different themes, designs, and colors. Be creative and think about what your kids love and create something magical for them. Wall stickers are very affordable, and the playroom will look fantastic. You can find wall stickers online and in stores. If you’re into drawing and painting, you can even paint your kids’ favorite cartoon character on the wall and personalize the playroom.

Affordable Storage Solutions

Having organized storage bins, shelves and built-ins will leave a lot of open space for kids to play. Also, since kids throw their toys everywhere, it’s important to teach them to put them away when they’re done playing. The storage space can be used for toys, art and craft supply, and for your personal things. Some garages have the storage up above the ceiling, so check if yours have it, too.

Kid-Friendly Floors

Concrete floors may not be the most comfortable thing to sit and play on. So, you can find soft floor mats that are durable and cozy to sit on. Floor mats come in many different colors and shapes. You can purchase puzzle floor mats and put them together in a way your kids would love them.

Keeping Kids Safe in the Playroom

While you’re converting your old garage into a new playroom, keep in mind that kids are curious by nature. This means that they are going to push any button they find. So, when you’re doing the garage conversion, make sure to disconnect the garage door opener. Then test the wall button and keep the remote out of kids’ reach.

Invite your kids to be a part of this process, as they’re the ones that will spend the most time in their new playroom. Let them be creative and enjoy this family project together. With these tips and tricks, your old and unused garage will become an adventurous space for your kids. Also, when they grow up, you can convert the playroom into a new desired space.
