Happy 70th Anniversary Madeline Review & Giveaway

Madeline BookEven though I have 3 boys, I am familiar with Madeline and think she is adorable.  Thanks to Kids Preferred, I had the opportunity to review both the Original Madeline in hardcover, as well as the 70th Anniversary Madeline Doll.  Do you know who Madeline is?  Madeline is the youngest of a group of 12 little girls, whose education is overseen by Miss Clavel at a Paris Boarding School.  The story takes place in late 1930s France, where Madeline and her friends enjoy breaking bread, brushing their teeth, going for walks in 1 or 2 straight lines, and then, inevitably, falling into a fun adventure!

Madeline DollMadeline is the precocious redheaded schoolgirl who is the main character of Ludwig Bemelman’s beloved children store, Madeline.  Kids Preferred is a leading plush manufacturer and is celebrating the milestone anniversary with plush Madeline characters and plush Genevieve characters (Madeline’s trusty pooch).  The 70th Anniversary Madeline Doll won the Fall 2009 National Parenting Center Seal of Approval and is perfect for children ages 3 and up.  Madeline is packaged in a see-through can bag with a pink rope handle.  This limited edition collector’s doll is dressed in a deft blue dress adorned with famous Parisian locales from the original book and is trimmed with lace and blue accents.  Her beautiful red hair is tied on the side with a satiny blue bow.  Madeline stands 13.5″ tall.  Madeline retails for $30 and you can purchase her and other Madeline products at La Petite Tica!

We actually gave the Madeline doll we received to a friend of ours who lives out of town.  The family has a little girl and she was so excited when she received the doll!  She’s been carrying it around the house with her everywhere she goes!  She just can’t put it down.  And of course the book to go along with it makes the experience that much more real and fun!  The family did not feel comfortable putting a picture of their daughter with the doll on the site, but were very thankful for such a wonderful gift!

  1. I think it was that those twelve little girls were in a boarding school and looked like they were having so much fun. I sometimes wished I had gone to an all girl’s boarding school too, especially when the boys were teasing me and pulling my braids at school.

  2. Extra entry. I commented on the Mommy Files Kitchen Tips about the Aluminium Foil. You should really blog about this again, since Thanksgiving is just around the corner and alot of people will be using Aluminium Foil to save clean-up time in the kitchen. Thanks again.

  4. I grew up with all the wonderful stories of Madeline. I loved the books and remember sitting on the couch with my mom reading these. No better memory than that! Thank you!

  5. I liked the Madeline cartoon that came on in the early/mid-90s. The songs were very cute, and the characters were so sweet and adorable.

  6. What I like most about Madeline is that she’s always stayed sweet.
So many of the dolls sold today look wayyyyyy too adult. She’s cute and innocent and fun; just like a doll should be!

  8. I always loved Madeline because she lived in Paris…I always wanted to live in Paris! My Mom had lived in France for a few years so I loved hearing stories about France and Madeline was a special story that my Mom and me shared together!

  9. Madeline is so sweet and simple. No gimmicks, gadgets, annoying noises! Just plain and simple. Also, she is adorable! One of the most adorable, simple dolls out there. Great for any little girl. Thanks for the giveaway.

  10. I loved madeline in the old chartoons and her little accent what a great chartoon as a child

  11. I love Madeline! I remember my mom reading the books to me and my sister as we grew up. That’s what I like most about Madeline – the memories she conjures up of quality time with my mom and sister. 🙂 Thanks for the giveaway!

  12. I remember Madeline from when I was a child (and I am now 66 – how did that happen?) and I would love to introduce her to my granddaughter via this prize. My grandmother read the book (was there only one then) to me.

  13. I’ve always read the books to my daughter, we love the character for her spunk and optimism, and she has an old faded Madeline doll so this would be fantastic!

  14. Madeline is just so darn cute and lovable. She connects so many generations of parents and their children. Reading Madeline is a great tradition that will be passed on for many more years to come.

  15. I watched Madeline when I was a child and it is something that is not violent or vulgar. I know that it is something that is for the whole family.

  16. I like that I can let my daughter watch Madeline and I don’t have to worry she will see something she shoudn’t. My daughter would absolutly love this doll. It looks so cute and cuddly.

  17. I really like that Madeline is a redhead (as I am,) and has a mind of her own. She is an independent thinker, and though by attending her strict school where following orders is recommended, she always finds her own way of doing things. That’s my kind of girl!

  18. My favorite thing about Madeline is her sense of adventure. I also think there is a little bit of Madeline in each of us.
