Today, on Redhead Mom, I’m sharing a partnered contributed post about ways to build memories with family during the holidays.

My favorite time of the year is during November and December, when we celebrate the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays. I love getting together with family and watching holiday movies, listening to holiday songs as well as enjoying food and traditions. I love setting up our holiday decorations and shopping for (and wrapping) gifts to put under the tree. Most of all, I love the memories we make with our family during these special times of the year. Here are a few ways to build memories with family during the holidays.
Food with Family
Some of the good memories I have of my childhood during the holidays involved food with family at the holidays. I loved getting our big family together at a table full of food while talking, laughing, and making memories. We enjoy doing that with our kids as well. I especially love when we share what we’re thankful for at Thanksgiving. On Christmas Eve, I love enjoying hot cocoa with whipped cream while watching a movie with our kids. Then, after we open gifts on Christmas morning, I make Holiday Blintzes or a Breakfast Casserole. Food and family go so good together and make lasting memories.
Holiday Decorations
During the holidays, my family and I love decorating our home and tree. It’s definitely one of my favorite family traditions. Each year, I like to buy one new ornament that represents something important to our family. I will admit that we have a lot of holiday ornaments – each one having a special memory or meaning that goes with it. It could be an ornament from a place you visited or even one with a family picture or your family names on it. Do you collect ornaments each year?
Holiday Movies and Music
Another way to build memories with your family is by watching holiday movies or listening to holiday music. We have a tradition of watching “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation” after eating Thanksgiving Dinner. Sometimes we’ll even splurge and watch another holiday movie, like “Christmas Story” or “Four Christmases.” I also love to listen to holiday music – whether it’s in the car or in the kitchen while cooking meals or baking goodies. Do you watch holiday movies and listen to holiday music with your family?
Travel
Another thing you can do is go traveling. When you travel, you’ll be able to spend quality time as a family, doing things you love. Remember, you’re not limited to staying at home during the holidays, so the world is your oyster. You can also plan a number of activities on the go as well. If you want a good starting point, why not plan a road trip? You can even book to stay at a local RV park too!
Games
Another family favorite is playing games together. We especially love playing games on our phones that are connected to the tv. Our favorites are Fibbage, Quiplash, and. Drawful, which we play through Apple TV. We’ve had some really good laughs playing these games together. Be sure to have a usb aaa battery on hand for any games that may require them.
I love the holidays and the memories we have built as a family over the years. Now that our kids are growing up and not so little anymore, I cherish these memories all year long.
