Unraveling Different Ways to Access the Applications Folder on macOS

Today, on Redhead Mom, I’m sharing a partnered guest post about ways to access the applications fold on macOS.

The Applications Folder houses all of the installed programs on your Mac. When you launch it, it becomes simpler to examine all programs in one location and do the essential changes. If you are unfamiliar with Mac, it could be challenging to access this folder. There are several ways to locate this feature in a MacBook. Use the Launchpad, Dock, Spotlight, or Finder. Additionally, you can use Terminal or make a desktop shortcut.

Use the Finder icon on Mac to open the apps folder

The MacBook’s file managing tool is the Finder button. You might be curious about where is the application folder on Mac. It is located in Dock. Using this icon, you can quickly find all the apps on your computer. The steps are listed below. 

  • Click the Apple button on your Mac’s screen.
  • Scroll down to System Settings.
  • Under the sidebar in this field, select Desktop and Dock. 
  • Under Dock, click Finder to open it. 
  • Scroll and select Applications. Once it opens, you will see all the applications installed on your Mac. 


Mac has many useful applications and one of them is Apple Stage Manager. You might wonder what is a Stage Manager or want to know how to use stage manager on Mac computer. The feature is used to organize open applications on your computer. Moreover, Stage Manager Mac is easy to use and launch. You need to visit System Settings on your computer and navigate to Desktop and Dock. Under the Apps button, open Mac Stage Manager and use it. Before you begin to use its different features, you must understand how to use stage manager and its components. 

Use Dock to access the applications folder on Mac

You will find the app’s icon on the farthest left side of your Mac’s Dock. To access Dock, you may use the same process for accessing the Finder icon. Alternatively, it is easy to use a keyboard shortcut to directly open this field. On your Mac keyboard, press keys Fn,  plus Command, plus F3 at the same time. You will directly open the Dock feature in Mac. Navigate the different icons there to locate the Applications button. Your computer will display all applications in it on the page that opens. 

Use Spotlight to find the Mac applications folder

In MacBook, Spotlight is used for searching different applications and documents. You can launch it and search for the apps folder with ease. To access it, press the command key plus the Space key simultaneously. You may also click the icon on your desktop that looks like a magnifying glass. Some Mac models might have a dedicated Spotlight key. If your computer has this key, just press it to launch Spotlight. Once it launches, search for any application installed on your computer. The apps will be displayed on the Search bar. Click on it to open. This action will take you straight to the Applications Folder.

Use Launchpad to get file path Mac

If you want to know how to find folders on Mac fast, Launchpad is the way to go. It is a feature that helps you launch apps quickly. Whenever you launch it, it checks your system to identify the apps on your computer. It then displays them in for your view 

  • The Launchpad button is located in the Dock.
  • Open Dock and click on Launchpad to open it
  • Once it launches, you will see all apps displayed. You can organize them the way you want. 


Launch Terminal and find the apps folder

Use the Fn + Command + F3 shortcut to open Dock. 

Under Dock, navigate to find Terminal

You can also use Cmd + Spacebar or you just press F4. 

Once Terminal opens, search any application and press Enter. This action will take you to the Applications Folder.

Create a desktop shortcut for the Applications Folder

You can create a desktop shortcut icon to quickly access the Applications Folder anytime you want. Here are the steps to follow.

  • Navigate to the Applications Folder. 
  • Drag and drop it to your Mac desktop to create a shortcut. You may also drag and drop one application only to the desktop. Every time you open the shortcut, it will direct you straight into the apps folder. 



The Mac Applications Folder features all software installed on your computer. The features include Safari, Mail, and Calendar. You can access the apps in this folder using Launchpad, Terminal, Finder, Dock, Spotlight, and many more. It is easy to open these features using the Apple Menu commands or through keyboard shortcuts.
