Today, on Redhead Mom, I’m sharing a partnered guest post about 3 reasons to buy an EV in 2023.

EV electric vehicle

Electric vehicles (EVs) have really taken off this year. In fact, there are currently more than 1.7 million EVs on the roads of the USA with many more expected to join them in the coming year. Although vehicles with internal combustion engines won’t completely disappear off the roads in the foreseeable future, the benefits of driving an EV can no longer be ignored. While switching to an EV can be good at any time, doing so early in 2023 is believed to be particularly beneficial. Here are a few reasons why it may be a good idea to buy a family EV in the new year for everything from your school runs to exciting family road trips.

New Year, New Incentives

In August this year, the new Inflation Reduction Act was signed into law, improving tax breaks for consumers and making EVs more affordable to buy. When the Act comes into effect on January 01, 2023, new EV owners will qualify for tax credits of as much as $7,500. This new incentive does come with a new requirement you need to be aware of: only new EVs that were manufactured in the USA qualify for this incentive. You can even benefit from buying a used EV thanks to the IRA introducing a ground-breaking credit for the purchase of pre-loved electric vehicles. When you buy a used EV, you can get up to $4,000 or 30% of the car’s value back as a credit. If you need extra cash to purchase an EV, you can sell your old car to a Junk Vehicle Removal company.

There is Something for Everyone

While the EVs of years gone by were all fairly similar in appearance and function, 2023 is promising something for everyone. You will be able to choose between everything from budget-friendly shorter-range vehicles to super-luxurious cars with rather imposing price tags.  There will also be more mid-range family vehicles to choose from thanks to new offerings by several mainstream manufacturers including Ford, Chevrolet, Subaru, Toyota, and Nissan. While budget-friendly cars are often frowned upon, there is no reason why your family can’t enjoy many years of happy and safe driving without breaking the bank. By making use of regenerative breaking you can even extend the range of your EV to put it more on par with a luxury model. If your family is looking for something a bit flashier, popular luxury brands such as Mercedes, Audi, and BMW are all promising to impress with their own new models.

With the right type of auto insurance, your policy may provide coverage for certain types of windshield repairs or auto glass replacement. If you’re considering filing vehicle glass insurance claims, read through your policy thoroughly or call your insurer first to determine which damaging events and which windows are actually covered.

Earth is Running Out of Time

It’s no secret that our planet has been dealt a very hard blow by carbon emissions over the years with transportation being one of the biggest contributors to this calamity.  When your family switches from an internal combustion engine (ICE) car to an EV, your collective carbon footprint will decrease a lot. This is because EVs have been proven to produce between 60% and 68% less greenhouse gas emissions than conventional gas-powered cars.  EVs can also benefit your family’s health in a more direct way. When your car produces less pollution the air quality improves which results in your family breathing in cleaner air which is far better for their health.

Buying an EV for your family could be one of the best ways to start the new year. Apart from saving money on your new ride, it can also help boost the health of our planet and your family. You can check out these top tips to prolong the life of your electric vehicle battery.
