Allure Beauty Box Review – July 2019

When it comes to beauty, I love the different products and formulas out there. A great way to try them is with a beauty subscription box (there are a ton of awesome subscription boxes out there)! One of my favorite beauty subscription boxes is the Allure Beauty Box. I love testing out the different formulas and color combinations in the Allure Beauty Box, as well as learning about the different beauty brands. I don’t know about you, but I hate purchasing a full-size product, using it and then finding out I HATE it! What’s worse is when you can’t return it after you discover you don’t like it. That’s where the beauty box subscriptions come in handy. You get to try out products and decide for yourself if you like them or not and whether you want to purchase them in the future. If you go to the Sephora site (or even the store), you’ll notice the red “Allure” symbols on various products. These are the “Best of Beauty Award Winners” chosen by Allure. Knowing this, I was really excited to start receiving the Allure Beauty Box Subscription Boxes.

Allure’s monthly beauty box offers top-trending, editor-tested makeup and beauty picks with a $50-$90 value for only $15 (plus tax) a box. Within each monthly box, you will receive full and travel-size products selected by Allure experts and a mini-mag with tips, shortcuts, and step-by-steps. The Allure Beauty Box is one of my favorite subscription boxes (in addition to FabFitFun and PopSugar Must Have). With tax, this beauty box subscription costs $16.09 per month, but I get way more than that in product! I love that these are the same brands I would find at Sephora, Ulta or in the beauty section of department stores like Macy’s and Nordstrom’s.

I love that each Allure Beauty Box is themed and for July, the box was focused on Huda Beauty. I have really been wanting to try some of the Huda Beauty products and was really excited to receive this box in the mail! While Huda Kattan was growing up in Oklahoma City, her mother taught her about beauty DIYs rooted in their Middle Easter culture, like using sweet almond oil to bright undereye circles. “I love that my heritage has really helped define my outlook on beauty,” she says. These early, intimate lessons is what contributed to Huda becoming one of the world’s most influential beauty bloggers.

From her current home in Dubai and, occasionally, a window seat on a plane, she teaches a following of more than 36 million how to sculpt, contour, and even brighten undereye circles. Her makeup line, Huda Beauty, has beautiful false lashes and liquid lipsticks – both of which are in the July box – as well as four other products personally selected by Kattan to help us continue in our own beauty education. Now that you is are super intrigued with this month’s Allure Beauty Box, let’s see what was in July’s box.

HUDA BEAUTY LIQUID MATTE LIPSTICK IN ALLURING (MAKEUP)

I have been wanting to try the Huda Beauty Lipsticks and was super excited to open the box and see the individually packaged lipstick. This was an Allure Beauty Box Exclusive. It’s really cool because this stunning orange-red lip color was actually created by Allure with Huda Beauty for the July Beauty Box. That means that you can only get this gorgeous tube of lipstick in this box! Woo hoo! I love having the Allure Beauty Box because there is always awesome goodies in it! When they first dreamed up this super sexy shade, they made a collage of one of their favorite runway lip trends – and then they passed the baton onto Kattan. She then took their color inspiration to her amazing team and soon shipped her favorite orange-red option to the Allure office. The Allure team loved it and it took them no time to identify the shade more flattering and eye-catching than any orange-red they’d tried before. The color looked amazing on five Allure editors with five very different skin tones. And just like that, Alluring was born!

HUDA BEAUTY CLASSIC LASH IN SAMANTHA (MAKEUP)

These false lashes are one of Kattan’s all-time best-sellers. They look amazingly dramatic in the box, but when Allure Beauty editors put them on, they look wispy and pretty. They thought they looked more like fresh lash extensions than a crazy fan of false lashes. Plus, they felt light and flexible (while others can feel stiff or heavy). The Editor’s favorite way to apply falsies: Measure first by holding them up to your lash line, then trim any excess from the outer corners. Coat the base using a lash glue with a brush applicator, press the center of the lashes on first, and then gently tamp down the rest from there. (Retail value: $20)

KAYALI VANILLA (FRAGRANCE)

Kattan and her sister, Mona, launched Kayali fragrances together, and the line’s velvety vanilla scent is one very decadent perfume. It’s like cake batter for the most luxurious wedding cake you’ve ever seen (or smelled). But the blend of tonka and brown sugar is also balanced by amber, vanilla orchid, and musk that give it just enough edge. The scent radiates a vibe that’s equal parts sexy and strong. (Retail value: $65 for 50 mL ; $118 for 100 mL)

TOO FACED HANGOVER PRIMER (MAKEUP)

This primer is definitely a great one to use! I used it for a long time and loved the way it felt on my skin and smelled. It feels hydrating rather than tacky like some primers. (Retail value: $34)

OUAI TEXTURIZING HAIR SPRAY (HAIR)

Jen Atkin, the hairstylist behind Ouai, is a master of full, sultry waves – so it makes perfect sense that her texturizing spray would be the best of its kind. A lot of others attempt to create beachy bends, but just ends up leaving hair crunchy (or exactly the same). The formula gives you pretty, soft volume all over. This is an awesome product – definitely a must-have for a good hair day! (Retail value: $26)

TONYMOLY INTENSE CARE SNAIL HYDROGEL MASK (SKIN)

Allure beauty editors know it sounds gross (and sticky), but this sheet mask is infused with snail mucin. It’s described that this slimy stuff actually, shockingly, feels heavenly on a hot summer day – it’s cooling and hydrating – and plumps skin immediately. Plus, there’s a real benefit to snail mucin, a popular K-beauty skin-care ingredient: “It’s a complex mix of peptides, antioxidants, glycosaminoglycans, hyaluronic acid, zinc, copper, iron, and manganese,” says Sejal Shah, a dermatologist in New York City. The powerful cocktail helps soften lines, clam inflammation, and promote collagen production over time. That means this sheet mask does everything a good sheet mask should: make skin radiant quickly…and then some. (Retail value: $10)

Every month, I look forward to receiving the Allure Beauty Box and rarely ever find myself disappointed in its contents. I think it will take some getting used to with the new red pouch, but I can’t wait to see what’s in store for August!
