Checking out the Brown Butter Cookie Company in Cayucos
My husband and I have driven up to Cambria and passed Cayucos quite a few times over the past 7 years, and each time, I’ve noticed and pointed out the sign that said Brown Butter Cookie Company. Even though we saw the sign, we’ve never actually visited the store. A month ago, my sister was visiting from Florida and we took her to see the elephant seals in Cambria. On our way back, I pointed out the sign again and this time, we decided to check it out. Boy, was I happy we did!
We parked across the street and noticed a pretty red-painted building with the Brown Butter Cookie Company sign hanging from above. It was a pretty and clean building that would definitely catch your eye if you were driving by. I could tell the Brown Butter Cookie Company was nearby because I could smell it and it smelled so good!!!
In my recipes, I use a lot of butter (thank you Costco for selling it in bulk at a great price). So I’m gonna be honest with you – I really didn’t know what Brown Butter was. In my mind, brown butter is burned butter! That is NOT what brown butter actually is! Brown butter is butter that has been browned on the stovetop to bring out a rich, nutty flavor. I had no idea what it was, but when I tasted the samples, it tasted amazing!!!
As I walked up the ramp, I noticed the Brown Butter Cookie Company logo on the window. I know I had seen the sign on the side of the freeway a number of times, but had no idea that they had been in business for 10 years! They were established in 2008 and this year will actually be their 11th year in business! I love seeing small businesses grow and succeed like this.
When I walked through the door, I was immediately greeted by a young man and woman who were offering cookie samples. They had me at cookie samples! They said I could try as many different flavors as I wanted and I definitely noticed a unique flavor in these delicious cookies. The Brown Butter Sea Salt Cookies had me wanting more!
We tried some samples and decided we really liked the Original flavor and the Cocoa flavor. Plus, every few months, they come out with a new flavor. For the months of April through June, they had the flavor Coconut Lime. The packages of cookie were on the higher priced side, but we still bought some to enjoy for later. They had different combinations already packaged. You could choose to get one flavor or two flavors.
If you are visiting the California Central Coast or live in the area, I strongly encourage you to check out the Brown Butter Cookie Company! The Brown Butter cookie factory is located in Cayucos, California and there is also a retail store in Paso Robles, California. Don’t worry though because if you aren’t traveling to the California Central Coast, you can still order your cookies online and have them delivered to your front door. Check them out today!
