Have you heard of the Boys and Girls Club of America? It’s an awesome organization with the mission to enable all young people, especially those who need them most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens. I have no doubt whatsoever that the Boys and Girls Club of America is doing just that, especially after seeing them in action this month. I was invited to the My.Future Event at the Boys and Girls Club Metro Los Angeles and loved seeing the kids expressing their creativity through the use of technology.
When I arrived to the gym filled with boys and girls, I could feel the excitement of the speaker they were waiting for, as well as the activities they were going to be participating in. California Assemblyman Mike Gipson visited the Watts/Willowbrook Clubhouse and introduced My.Future to the kids.
Something that I could tell is that the kids and teens love going to their local Boys & Girls Club. This is true of kids at Boys & Girls Clubs all over the country. They enjoy it not only for the fun they have, but also for the care and attention they get. They also love connecting and playing online and now BGCA is reaching out to them through a groundbreaking new social platform, My.Future.
What is My.Future? My.Future is a new digital platform that is both safe and fun and allows its members to showcase their work and earn recognition in the form of stars, badges and master badges. It’s a space where kids can interact with each other (free from cyberbullying) and share their accomplishments locally and nationally. It’s really an awesome platform!
I learned that no other youth development organization in the country has a digital presence as powerful as My.Future. I love that it’s a safe, fun and mobile-friendly social platform. Plus, it provides access to 125 BGCA program activities – in areas such as STEM, Leadership and Visual Arts – and enables kids and teens to connect and share with their friends all while earning recognition and rewards!
At the end of the event, each child was gifted with an iPad and a pair of headphones. They were elated to be receiving these gifts of technology that would help them continue their journey through My.Future. This was overall a really awesome event to attend and it was great to learn more about BGCA and My.Future.
I think it’s so awesome that BGCA is helping kids and teens throughout the country and after seeing them in action, I think even more highly of them as they use the My.Future platform to help the youth of today to find success. My.Future is important for youth because it gives them the opportunity to engage in productive out-of-school-time activities that will help lead them down the path to success as adult members of society. The activities in My.Future teach skills and knowledge that will help prepare them to take their place in the workforce of the future. I think it’s fabulous and I give kudos to the Boys & Girls Clubs of America and Comcast NBCUniversal for preparing kids and teens for #GreatFutures.

Boys & Girls clubs are so important. When I was a kid in the 70’s my mom was a single mom and it was a great place for my brother and myself to go after school and during the summer months.
I Have so much love for the Boys and Girls club! They are such a wonderful organization!

I have always been a supporter of BGCA! I hadn’t heard about My.Future but it sounds like a great initiative.
I have not heard about this program before. But Boys and Girls clubs are so important in communities. It gives all children a chance for a wholesome role model.
