I love babies and I love baby showers! I love to throw and attend baby showers! But what happens if an expecting mom already has kids? My personal belief is that every baby should have a shower and be celebrated…and so should the expecting mommy. If you’re looking to throw a baby shower for an expecting mom who already has kids, I would highly recommend a Baby “Sprinkle”!

What is a Baby Sprinkle? A Baby Sprinkle is a gathering that is lower key than a typical baby shower. It allows friends and family to shower a pregnant woman with love and a couple of gifts (i.e. diapers, clothes), without all the bells and whistles that happen at a typical baby shower. You “sprinkle” the expectant mom with gifts instead of “showering” her as she may already have a lot of the basics (i.e. car seat, Pack ‘n Play, bouncy seat). It doesn’t mean you don’t have to give those as gifts, but it’s a lot lower key than a typical baby shower.

Tips for Throwing a Baby Sprinkle

Ask Mom – When throwing a Baby Sprinkle, be sure to talk to the expectant mom during the planning stages about what she would like. Collect a list of guests she’d like to invite and what she needs for the new baby.

Plan the Party One of the fun things about planning the Baby Sprinkle is picking out the invitations. I love how cute Baby Sprinkle and Baby Shower Invitations can be! Basic Invite is a great place to go to order invitations for your Baby Sprinkle, not to mention thank you cards and other party invitations. You may also consider renting some luxury restroom trailers or Portable Toilet Rental for Events for your guests.

Sprinkle Her with Essentials – The great thing about having a Baby Sprinkle is that guests can come together to celebrate the expectant mom and baby by sprinkling her with the essentials (and some fun stuff too, of course)! Expectant moms can never have too many packages of diapers, wipes, bottles, pacifiers, and new baby clothes. Find out what the expectant mama needs and encourage her to register for things she needs as well at local stores and online.

Baby Games – I’m not sure about you, but I really enjoy playing Baby Shower games. While this isn’t a full blown baby shower, it doesn’t mean there can’t be Baby Shower Games! Consider games like the Baby Word Scramble, Baby Items in the Bag, or Guess the Food. You might even consider having a Diaper Raffle, where guests bring a package of diapers and receive a raffle ticket. At the end of the shower, one lucky guest will receive a prize and the expectant mom will go home with lots of diapers for baby.

Don’t forget the siblings – Celebrating the upcoming arrival of the new baby is not only exciting for mom and her family and friends, but also for the baby‘s siblings. I’ve been to baby showers where the sibling was in attendance and received a special gift just for being a big sister or brother. It’s a great way to get the siblings excited about the new baby!

I love the idea of a baby sprinkle instead of a shower. Showers get so big and they take a hundred million years. It even gets to be a bit much for the mom sometimes!
