5 Things to Bring When You’re Traveling by Plane

#Dramamine #BlogHer #BlogHer17 #KeepMoving #ad

Ever since I was a kid, flying in a plane has made me nervous. I honestly think it’s a number of things, including being scared of heights, having no control over the plane and not really understanding how a huge plane can stay in the air thousands of feet off the ground. Even though I get nervous, I still do it when I’m traveling long distances.

While these things I mentioned above make me nervous, there is one other thing that makes me nervous about flying – the fear of motion sickness kicking in while I’m in the air! Thankfully, I haven’t yet experienced the dreaded act of puking up my guts into a small paper bag surrounded by strangers, but I have experienced the lightheadedness and nausea that goes along with motion sickness. My youngest son unfortunately inherited this trait from me and he always throws up when he gets motion sickness. I’m so glad there is Dramamine®Non-Drowsy Naturals to help alleviate the motion sickness symptoms. In fact, it’s is my go-to motion sickness preventative medicine that I take whenever I’m traveling – and it works! Dramamine® is America’s number one over-the-counter brand for the treatment and prevention of motion sickness, so I know the products will work and fast.

For those of you who are unfamiliar, Dramamine® Non-Drowsy Naturals is the first non-drowsy solution for motion sickness from Dramamine®, the leading brand for motion sickness. One dose contains the full clinically tested ginger dosage for the prevention and treatment of motion sickness. Since it’s made from natural ginger, Dramamine® Non-Drowsy Naturals is safe to use every day you travel.

Dramamine® Non-Drowsy Naturals should be taken 30 minutes before starting an activity or at the onset of symptoms to help prevent or relieve the nausea and vomiting associated with motion sickness. So if I’m traveling by plane, I like to take it when I’m waiting in the seating area prior to boarding the plane.

Later this month, I’ll be heading to Orlando, Florida for BlogHer ’17 and I will definitely have my Dramamine® Non-Drowsy Naturals on hand when I fly, as I’ve had a history of motion sickness. I can’t wait to meet up with brands and bloggers at this fun conference, as well as the things I’ll learn while I’m there. I know that Dramamine® will get me there feeling comfortable without motion sickness!

5 Things to Bring When You’re Traveling By Plane!

1 – Dramamine® Non-Drowsy Naturals – this helps battle my motion sickness, making the flight much more enjoyable. I always have it on hand when I travel. Save $1.00 on Dramamine products HERE.

2 – Chewing gum – this helps to clear your ears when cabin pressure changes in the plane.

3 – Lip balm – to keep your lips moisturized. With the air running the entire flight, your lips can get pretty dry and chapped, so put some moisture back in them with lip balm.

4 – Cash or credit card– you’ll want cash or credit card on hand if you’ll be ordering snacks or drinks. Sometimes you’ll even have the option to purchase headphones if you forgot to bring them in the plane with you.

5 – Water and snacks – you can buy them in the airport or on the plane, but they are less expensive in the airport. I like to have pretzels and water on hand as they also help my ears to clear when we’re taking off from the airport. You can use Telephone contact Tap Portugal if you need help modifying your reservation.

  1. I make sure I have gum, something to read, snacks and a jacket in case I get cold. Planes always have too much air conditioning for my taste 🙂

I have not flown in a long time, but I would have snacks, gum and a coat with me.

  3. Water and snacks for sure and YES LIPBLAM! Can’t leave without them but I have not needed Dramamine on a plane. When I need it is when on BOATS. I took a cruise once and could not have survived it without Dramamine!

  4. I always have gum and water with me when I travel by plane. This is a great list though because so many people go years between flying or have never flown at all. It’s nice to be prepared! Thanks for the chance at this!

  5. I have only ever used dramamine for when we were out on the water. Thinking I need to try it when we are on a road trip and the hilly and curvy roads make me feel ill. Flying doesn’t bother me. We always use credit card to buy snacks they never want to take cash.

Motion sickness is my enemy! I am always look out for new products that will help me combat these issues!

  8. I always make sure a take a pillow with me on the plane. So many airlines have gotten rid of them, and it’s so nice to have a travel pillow and a comfy pair of shoes when you will be on a long flight.

  9. Claudia Krusch

I love Dramamine Non-Drowsy Naturals. They are so effective when I travel and I can stay alert. They saved me on my first cruise.

  10. I need to try this medicine! I travel a lot and often feel motion sickness when I am on a boat or small cruise.

  11. I always have to have water. Plane rides make me so thirsty! I also don’t chew gum, so having a sip of water helps when taking off or landing to keep the pressure out of my ears.

  12. Totally awesome list! It’s good to have dramamine with you whenever you travel! It’s going to come in handy when you get motion sickness. It’s also going to help you enjoy the journey instead of feeling sick all the time.

  13. Dana Rodriguez

I have only flown once and I had a couple of drinks because I was pretty scared. I have taken Dramamine before on other types of trips and it works great!

  14. This is a great list. I’ve never actually been on a plane before. I have always heard about chewing gum to be really helpful.

  15. I make sure to have the following when I am traveling by plane:
    1) ipad
    2) headphones
    3) snacks
    4) traveling slippers
    5) zip up sweatshirt
    6) chargers
    7) clip on light for laptop / ipad
    8) laptop for longer flights

  16. great list! glad there’s a motion sickness supplement that’s non-drowsy for those who need it, such as yourself! I always bring gum on a plane, ever since I heard it help with the take off and landing to make your ears not pop by increasing altitude too fast!

  17. Sandy Klocinski

Undergarments, shoes, a set or two of regular clothes, entertainment, medication and, for longer flights, basic toiletries.

  18. When I am traveling my plane I make sure I have hand wipes on hand and I wipe everything down around my seat.

  19. David Hollingsworth

I have never been on a plane, but if I did, I would probably bring some hand sanitizer. You have to be cautious, because you obviously have no idea who sat in your seat before you, or use the armrest also before you.

  20. I like to have gum, and my neck pillow and a blanket. Dramamine is great to have too and I love that you can now find non-drowsy formulas.

  21. Victoria Heckstall

I used this especially when we will travel with the cruise. I would love to bring snacks and pillow too.

  22. Rebecca Swenor

This is a great list of items to bring when you are traveling on a plane. I don’t fly much at all but I would take the Dramamine next time I do. This can be used for many things too. I do believe I have used it when I had vertigo. Thanks for sharing the list.

    1. Yes!!! bring Tylenolo, aspirin/acetaminophen/caffeine combo, or whatever is your preferred headache remedy. If you buy at at the airport, it’s horrendously expensive. It was almost fifteen dollars for four tablets once when I needed it at an airport.

  23. Theresa Jenkins

It’s been a long time since I have flown but Dramamine is a must with any travel for me… motion sickness was a BIG thing as a kid, as I got older I seem to have out grown it but when I hit 50… it’s back with vengeance!

  24. crystal gibson

I have never flown but I know I would have to bring a book to read to pass the time. Thank you so much for the chance to win.

  25. I have taken Dramamine before to help with motion sickness. I also try a fizzy drink, closing my eyes, and concentrating on something in the distance.

Thanks for the chance to win!

  26. I make sure to have my cashmere wrap on hand when I’m traveling by plane.

  27. Ashley Simmons

When I’m traveling by plane I always have to bring an eye mask and neck pillow! I can’t even imagine trying to sleep without those essentials.

  28. I have been flying for 46 years, since I was 2, so I don’t really have any problems with planes. One of my boys does get car sick when we drive twisty roads, so we do try to keep some Dramamine in the car for him.

  29. I always make sure to have my pain relieve medication for my headache. But I will include Dramamine in the future. I get motion sickness every once in a while!

  30. Alexandra Oller

When I was younger I was always told sucking through a straw would help pop my ears when flying and it never ever worked!

  31. Jennifer Tilson

I always bring a sweater in case I’m cold when I travel. I also try to bring chewing gum to help with my ears popping for elevation changes.

  32. Brittney House

I make sure to have wipes on hand when traveling. I heard how dirty some things can be when traveling on planes.

  33. The main thing I make certain that I have is something to read. And since that is now almost always my Kindle, make certain it is totally charged!

  34. The last time I flew it was soo cold on the plane so a cardigan is something I would bring with me if I travel by plane again.

  35. I always take snacks and my Kindle on the plane with me. Luckily I don’t get motion sickness on planes, only on boats.

  37. I have not travelled by plane since 1999 but if I do fly, i will be sure to have gum, a good book, and Dramamine.

  38. I don’t really travel by plane, but if I did, I would carry pretty much the same items that are listed in the article: water, snacks, and cash/credit card. I’d also bring along some ibuprofen for headaches, allergy medicine, tissues, and a couple of magazines or a book.

  39. I haven’t been on a plane in ages, I’m thinking what I would want the most are my earmuffs, they block out noise. I got them at a gun shop, they wear them while they practice at the range. I don’t know if I would get motion sick on a plane, I know I get sea sick very easily.

  40. Janna Johnson

Must haves for my plane rides always include a sedative, anti-nausea medication, cell phone, charger, headphones, and a neck pillow! I mean the medication in all seriousness as I HATE the feeling of falling even for a moment and have only been able to get on a plane with medication the last 5 years. I never flew until I was 32 years old!

  41. I’ve never been on a plane, but when and if I do, I’m going to make sure I have a good book to read.

  42. Cynthia Schmied

I carry cooling wipes, sandwich baggies and extra pens for the crossword puzzle in the airplane magazine.

  43. I haven’t traveled by plane in ages! It does make me nervous, too, but I do tend to be the nervous Nellie type. Seeing from comments people make about flying I would bring my safety ear muffs, they cut out noise pretty good! These are good tips, and if/when I need to fly, I will keep all this in mind.

  44. I always like to make sure to have extra patience on me when I travel by air along with reading material!

  45. BIRDIE SKOLFIELD

I always have mints to chew on it settles the stomach and lavander essential oil to calm my anxious mind

  46. Stephanie Larison

Dramamine for sure, it’s a gift from the Gods! I just discovered it this last year and it’s amazing. I also bring my crossword puzzle book to keep me busy.

  47. I always take antibacterial wipes so I can wipe down everything! The seat belt fastener to the tray table to the arm rests to the light controls!

  48. Angie Adelman

My must have are gum for my ears
Travel at night of going far so I can sleep
And something light to eat so I don’t get nauseas.
    Thanks for this chance.
    Good luck all

  49. Maria A. Malaveci

Oh goodness there are so many things that I make sure to have! For myself my Kindle & gum, and for my kids things to keep them busy like coloring books, video games and of course the essentials like snacks, gum, and Motrin/Tylenol.

    mmalavec(at)med(dot)umich(dot)edu

  50. I make sure that I always have my kindle with a few good books that I’m looking forward to reading. That makes any travel delays almost worth it especially if I’m travelling alone!

  51. I always take my own snacks since buying things in the airport can get expensive. I like to carry my own water bottle and fill it up once I get through security.

  52. A wrap always to use if cold or as a pillow..though I never sleep. Snacks are good..facial spray mist for dry air..nasal spray too.

  53. I always take Dramamine before a flight. I’ve recommended it to others who are a little jittery about flying. It helps so much! I also take gum and a magazine or two.

  54. Gum is definitely a must along with decongestant. This also helps clear the ears. Ear plugs are great to block out noise if there is a noisy person around. I also like to have a good book to read. And for number 5 I like to have Imodium on stand by. I never want to have bathroom problems when on a plane!

  55. I always take a neck pillow, a hoodie, gum for my ears, (wish they had Dramamine for ear popping btw) and a couple good audio books on my phone or laptop depending on the trip.

  56. I always have a big piece of bubble gum in case my ears get plugged and I like to keep dramamine on hand in case of motion sickness. I suffer from a vestibular disease so I always have Dramamine in case of vertigo attacks.

  57. I’m a single mom, and I want to take my girls on vacation but traveling alone, kind of freaks me out. Great post THANKS FOR SHARING

  58. Debbi Wellenstein

I haven’t actually flown for 20 years, as it terrifies me! I would bring a book if I could be forced onto a plane.

  59. The most important thing that I have on hand when I am traveling by plane is some Dramamine so it make the time go by faster.

  60. I always make sure I have a big water, some caffeine even if it’s just chocolate and a book to read. And an open air vent so I don’t get quite so claustrophobic. 😉

  61. Lip balm, 2 days of medications, extra reading glasses and a book. Also a tee shirt in case my luggage gets lost I can at least have a clean top!

  62. I make sure I have some hard candy to suck on to balance out the change in pressure in the cabin when I fly on a plane.

  63. I pack snacks and my empty glass bottle to refill after security. I have health issues and always need to have food and water available.

  64. I recommend not putting your sunglasses or breakable items (mirror) in your carry on suitcase but rather in your backpack. If your carry on falls the items may break ALL over your clothes. Also, you may have to check your bag in because there’s no overhead space, and if you pack those items they will get smashed by other suitcases as they toss them in the airplane!! Also, pack your liquids in the bottom of your suitcase and in the event that they spill, your liquids won’t spill from the top of your carry on to the bottom but the mess will stay on the bottom. Also, pack a set of reusable utensils if you have them so that you avoid single use items that will go to the landfill! Thanks for your sharing…

  65. Bring an empty bottle, go through security, fill it at a water fountain usually located near the bathrooms, go on you flight and stay hydrated
