It’s hard to believe that 6 years ago, I started The Mommy-Files. I was married at the time and had a family blog, but wanted a blog that was all my own. A blog where I could talk about motherhood (both the struggles and joys), connect with friends and family, and share my experiences through both pictures and words. Who knew that what started out as a hobby would someday turn into a career.
The Mommy-Files has grown a LOT over the past 6 years. Moving from blogger.com to a self-hosted website with WordPress was the first big thing. Then it was the 3 major facelifts I had to the site. I couldn’t find the first, but the second one is the first picture in this post. The next big thing was the site redesign I have now (and love)! The next big thing was taking on the opportunity to travel and participating in more sponsored posts – which enabled me to stay home with my kids and pay the bills at the same time after I went through my divorce. I have been listed as 1 of the Top 10 Bloggers on Twitter, as well as 1 of the Top 50 US Mom Bloggers by Cision. Heck, I was even quoted in “Parents” magazine recently! Pretty dang awesome, right? Even though I went to school to become a Paralegal, my blog career blossomed and I chose the path of social media. I love the decision I made and am continually happy with the opportunities I’ve had come along the way.
People often ask what I blog about. I loved the answer one girl gave at BlogHer ’14 and have adopted it as my own. I blog about the things I love. I blog about being a mother and stepmother, a fiancé (and soon a wife), a daughter, a sister, an auntie and a friend. I blog about the products and companies I love and places I visit. What once was the blog of a stay-at-home with 3 young boys is now a blog about a woman who has discovered her worth and importance in the roles she has (mother, stepmother, fiancé, auntie, sister, daughter) and whose family has doubled from 3 to 6 amazing children. I love how it has grown into what it is today!
