When it’s New Year’s, what do many of us do?  We make a New Year Resolution, right?  Well, it’s the beginning of the school year and it’s time to make your New School Year Resolution.  We thought long and hard about what we wanted to have for our family’s New School Year Resolution.  When we agreed on it, it was unanimous!

Having three boys, it can get kind of crazy and hectic in the mornings during the school week.  We decided as a family that we want to minimize the chaos and hectic that happens at times during the school week.  So, how will we do that?  Make a New School Year’s Resolution!  Yeah!

Our New School Year Resolution is to prepare the night before.  This is definitely easier said than done and will require much practice.  The night before, we will have clothes set out for the next day, including fresh socks, underwear, pants or shorts, weather-appropriate shirts, and jackets (if necessary).  Glasses will be cleaned and stored in their glasses case, next to the bed.  Toothbrushes, toothpaste, hair brush, and hair product will be set out on the bathroom counter, ready to use.  Shoes will be waiting by the door.  Backpacks will be packed with completed assignments, filled water bottles, and other goodies by the front door.  Lunch will be decided the night before (i.e. hot or cold lunch).

I am really excited to have our mornings more organized and the chaos lessened.  My boys are pretty excited about it as well!  A big thanks to the Nestlé Family for this awesome opportunity to participate.  My boys’ school is very excited to receive a $350 box of books, donated by the NESTLÉ Family as a part of the NESTLÉ Family Happy New School Year Campaign!

Here’s wishing you a Happy New School Year!  Be sure to check back for some exciting back-to-school giveaways from the NESTLÉ Family!

I was compensated for my participation in the NESTLÉ Family Happy New School Year Resolutions Promotion and for writing this post.  The box of books donated to my boys’ school was provided by NESTLÉ Family. All opinions expressed in this post are 100% mine.

What a great thing…calmer mornings in a house full of busy kiddos. The greatest thing is the habits we’re teaching are kids now they’ll carry throughout their lives. So maybe we can set them up for a lifetime of calm or organization, or whatever we set up for our family resolution.

I love your resolution mainly because it’s something I already do! It works really well for me to get everyone packed to go the night before and lay out the kids clothes too. Hope it works as well for you as it has for me.

I picked up some tips by reading your resolution! I never would have thought about making sure everyone’s glasses were clean before going to bed. Not a big time saver, (but still a save!). And when getting kids ready in the morning every second counts!

  7. Angie says:

Being organized is a great key to easier mornings for school! that one tip alone has helped us alot!

I have four boys so I hear you on trying to get organized. Some of my boys were organized and some aren’t. Keep everything as close to the door you leave out of and don’t have anything else in that areas that is distracting. Also important. That everyone is well rested.

Very generous of them to donate those books. Thanks for doing these posts, this one and them all. Hope things go well for you and yours this school year. We always start out with the best intentions. My daughter says at the beginning of every year that she isn’t going to miss any school that year. Lol. That doesn’t last long.

My resolution is very similar to yours – to get ready the night before and have enough time in the morning. Thank you for the great giveaways!

You’ve hit the nail on the head by preparing things the night before! As an older mom, teacher, grandma, I consider preparations the night before to be a survival strategy.

Thank you for all the great Nestle Giveaways! Your resolution is definitely something I need to work on. I’m always saving things for the last minute & its not working lol

  14. Susan Heim says:

We try to get as much done as possible the night before, too. We make the lunches, and get all the papers in the backpack and set it by the door (or put it in the car). It makes mornings so much easier!

I think that is a wonderful New School Year Resolution! I for one know how hectic things can get in the morning (or I did), and I’ve taken to setting things up for a busy day the night before-It most definitely saves time and sanity!

I hope your resolution is working out great for you and the boys 🙂

I just wish I could stick with my organizing resolutions, but it always feels like everything conspires against me. Still, once in a while something sticks. Thanks for the great Nestle giveaways.

  18. Eileen says:

Oh Shannon, with 6 kids I have NEVER been really organized. I worked full time during some of parenting, for a long time as a single parent of the first 3. It is a JOB in itself. Now at the end of the line with a tween and teens, it is even worse because you dont have as much “control” while they strive for some independence. so for now it is all about bedtimes and getting them to get enough sleep and staying focused. I miss the days when so little it was easier to get things all ready and no complaints. Now it takes FOREVER and about 20 tries before my 12 year old gets the right outfit for the day picked out. uggh. But never boring around here! School keeps us on our toes!

WOW…what a great gift from Nestle!

  19. Theresa Mahoney says:

Organization is key to happy mornings here! We make sure everything is layed out or packed in bags the night before. Showers are done in the evening too incase we oversleep and are rushed in the mornings, plus it saves the girls from fighting over who gets more bathroom time when there isn’t a whole lot to spare in the mornings!

  20. Geoff K says:

We made the resolution as a family to get to bed before 10:00 on school nights, but that’s proving a lot more difficult than we thought it would be with our busy schedules and high energy level. So we’ve shifted focus a bit to spending more school nights together as a family, eating dinner at home at least four nights a week and working on school/work assignments together as much as possible. I think New School Year resolutions are a great idea, especially if you can follow through with them!
