“Ni Hao, Kai-lan: Princess Kai-lan” DVD Review & Giveaway

On October 5th, Nickelodeon and Paramount Home Entertainment released Ni Hao, Kai-lan: Princess Kai-lan on DVD.  I was talking to a friend about Ni Hao, Kai-lan and how much her daughter loves the show.  The mom was amazed by how her daughter was learning to speak Chinese from Ni Hao, Kai-lan, but wasn’t picking up the Portuguese language she was trying to teach her at home.  My youngest son, Sam, saw Ni Hao, Kai-lan on the TV the other day and was fascinated by her!  You’ll find your little ones fascinated by her as well.  You can purchase Ni Hao, Kai-lan: Princess Kai-lan on DVD in stores and online, retailing for $16.99.

Synopsis of Ni Hao Kai-lan:

Ni Hao, Kai-lan is a play-along, think-along series that weaves together Chinese language and culture, preschool-relatable stories, and interactivity, with Kai-lan as an intimate friend and playmate!  “Ni hao” means “hi” in Mandarin Chinese – and that’s how Kai-lan greets children every day.  Kai-lan Chow is an exuberant Chinese-American preschooler, almost 6, whose world in infused with Chinese and Chinese American cultures and is brimming with magical sights and sounds, and where there’s always something amazing and beautiful to see.  Along the way, she and her bilingual buddies speak in English and Mandarin Chinese, but they always need kids’ help to find creative solutions to the daily dilemmas that come their way.

Lulu’s Cloud

Kai-lan is invited over to Lulu’s magical house in the clouds!  She is thrilled that Mr. Dragon is flying her there, but Hoho gets upset when he sees that the games, the food, and even the hats are different than what he’s used to, and soon he wants to go home.  It’s up to Kai-lan and the viewer to help Hoho see that if he tries some different things, he might actually like them!

The Moon Festival

Kai-lan is excited for the traditional Chinese Moon Festival, and Hohois thrilled because he’s finally old enough to stay awake with his friends so they can make lanterns, eat mooncakes, and best of all, watch the moon come out!  But when the sky is so cloudy that Hoho can’t see the moon at all, he breaks into tears.  Kai-lan and the viewer have to help Hoho find a way to make everything better.
