“Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief” DVD Giveaway

On Tuesday, June 29th, 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment released “Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief” on DVD and Blu-ray Disc.  The film stars Logan Lerman, Sean Bean, Pierce Brosnan, and Kevin McKidd.  It was a fun and adventurous movie!

SYNOPSIS

Modern and mythical worlds collide in a heroic epic adventure when Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief arrives on Blu-ray Disc and DVD June 29 from Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment.  Based on the popular book series by Rick Riordan, the film follows trouble-prone Percy Jackson who finds himself having problems in high school… but that’s the least of his challenges.  It’s the 21st century, but the gods of Mount Olympus have walked out of the pages of his Greek mythology texts and into his life, and they’re not happy – Zeus’ lightning bolt has been stolen, and Percy is the prime suspect.  Learning he is the son of Poseidon, the young teen finds himself caught between angry and battling gods, and embarks on a cross-country adventure to catch the true lightning thief and unravel a mystery more powerful than the gods themselves.

Directed by Chris Columbus (first two Harry Potter films), Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief stars rising star Logan Lerman (“Jack & Bobby”), and features an ensemble cast including Rosario Dawson (Seven Pounds), Steve Coogan (Night At The Museum films), Uma Thurman (Kill Bill films), Pierce Brosnan (The Thomas Crown Affair, James Bond films), Catherine Keener (Where The Wild Things Are), and Kevin McKidd (“Grey’s Anatomy”). The Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief  Blu-ray includes over an hour of special features, 10 deleted scenes, a “Secrets of the Gods” featurette, an “On Set” with Brandon T. Jackson, and much more. The standard DVD includes five deleted scenes, “Bringing The Book To Life” featurette and a “Discover Your Powers” quiz.  The Blu-ray Disc with Digital Copy will be available for the suggested retail price of $39.99 U.S. / $49.99 Canada and the standard DVD will be available for the suggested retail price of $29.98 U.S. / $43.48 Canada.

MY THOUGHTS

I found it to be a fun and entertaining movie.  I remember studying Greek Mythology in school, so it was neat to hear the names again associated with the different characters in the movie.  There were a few parts that were pretty scary, but overall it was a really good movie!

    I always thought the story of Arachne was interesting. She was a weaver who was turned into a spider for boasting of her skills. Not a good idea when jealous gods are around.

    Zeus, the king of the gods in Greek mythology, although I mostly remember the name from the old Ray Harryhausen Clash of the Titans movie. This looks like a fun film. Thank you for the chance to win.

    Well, I’m named after one of them — Venus (aka Aphrodite) — although I was teased a lot so I started using my middle name (Marie) instead. My daughter and I both love Greek mythology though and have yet to see this movie — we’ve been waiting for it to come out so we can rent it 🙂
