California Raisin Popcorn Recipe Review & Giveaway

We love popcorn and I recently had the opportunity to make a yummy popcorn recipe with ingredients courtesy of California Raisins!  I put together a yummy recipe for California Raisins Five-Spice Popcorn Snack Mix!  I altered the ingredients to make it less spicy than the original recipe created.  It was really good and was eaten up quickly!

CALIFORNIA RAISINS FIVE-SPICE POPCORN SNACK MIX

Prep time: 10 minutes
Cook time: 3 to 5 minutes
Makes 4 to 6 servings

Ingredients:

1 bag (97% fat-free) microwave popcorn, popped
1/4 cup sesame sticks (I used 1/2 cup)
1/2 teaspoon each: garlic powder and onion powder
1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1 teaspoon dried cilantro leaves
1 teaspoon Chinese 5-spice powder (I used 1/2 tsp)
1/2 cup crisp chow mein noodles (I used 3/4 cup)
Olive oil cooking spray (lots)
1 cup California Raisins

Directions:

Stir together all ingredients except raisins in a large bowl. Spray mixture liberally with cooking spray and toss with your hands, repeating until popcorn is well coated with spices; stir in raisins.
Recipe Tip: Add additional ingredients to taste. We suggest honey roasted peanuts, minced crystallized ginger or even semi-sweet chocolate chips.

Why California Raisins are a wise choice for snacking:

·         Just 1/4 cup of raisins equals a serving of fruit for adults.
·         California Raisins are fat- and cholesterol-free.
·         Raisins deliver important health components, such as fiber, potassium and antioxidants.

MY THOUGHTS

I found this recipe fun and easy to make.  It was also really tasty and I loved the balance of the salty, sweet (from the raisins), and small trace of spice from the different spices used in the recipe.  The Olive Oil Spray also added a good flavor to the mix.  The popcorn was enjoyed by all….and went fast!  I’ll definitely be making this recipe again in the future!

  2. main entry: I love California Raisins so many ways to enjoy them too. Well, we love having mexican night and when I do I find it hard to find alot of dessert dishes to fit that theme, but while searching in the california raisin search field for just recipes & I put in the keyword chocolate because we love chocolate & raisons conbined around this household and a very interesting recipe came up called “mexican-chocolate-rum-raisin-bread-pudding” and it sounds really good to try using bread crumbs & a bit of rum to soak the california raisins in which I have never tried before and its a large recipe so I would cut that in half & will be trying that with our mexican meal night. here is the link to view it & it really looks like a great recipe that californis raisin has provided their readers. Thanks great site I book marked it to use often lots of ideas.

  13. I learned that California Rasins are seedless. “California raisins, both the sun-dried dark naturals and the goldens, are made by drying Thompson Seedless Grapes. These do not contain seeds. “

  14. I’m not a fan of raisins in a meal but anything sweet with raisins is GREAT!! I love Carrot Cake w/out nuts ;), Oatmeal Raisin Cookies and this really good Raisin Rice pudding that my Grandma would make…It’s was Fabulous! and chocolate cover raisins.

  23. With so many grandkids, I went straight for the Kids Recipes…I’d like to try the Breakfast Raisin-Banana Tortilla Roll-up. Story for you…My oldest grandson won’t eat raisins since he found out that they’re dried grapes and dried in the sun…he says that’s just gross. He’s 11.

  24. I’m going to try the Sugarless California Raisin Wonder Bars. I’ve been trying to cut out sugar but it’s nice to have something that still feels like a snack or treat. I love that these are made with wheat flour and wheat germ. I also love how you can change the quantity and it will recalculate the recipe. I wish they would have had a picture of this recipe though.

  25. The Maui Onions Stuffed with Curried Raisin Couscous, topped with tomato-raisin marmalade sounds delicious. Complicated, but delicious.
