  1. Ooh, this would be such a cool addition to our mom story-time group!

Anyway, we try to add a few new “green” things throughout the year. Our latest additions have all been baby-centered: we cloth diaper (cuts down on disposable waste), breastfeed (cuts down on formula waste), and only use hand-me-downs or buy second-hand. We also try to focus on only buying from small local mom-and-pop places, which cuts down on gas and on some of the corporate waste, but I’m not sure if that really makes much of a difference for the environment. It might be that that just makes us feel better about ourselves lol!

Also, I voted for you in both things (although had trouble with the one, I’m not sure if it’s a browser issue or what?) and am a Twitter follower, Facebook fan, and RSS follower. So. Wow. That’s alot of following =)

  2. Recently, we went to Kohnl’s to buy my teenager a pair of dress shoes. lol

What we do to help stay green in our home is to recycle. We recycle paper, glass, soda cans, newspaper, and much more. We also have the water saving toilets. I am not a fan of the water saving toilets because ours wants to overflow. Sorry. Anyways, we do many things. We shop at Sam’s Club and reuse boxes and bags to carry our own groceries too. 🙂

    Thanks,

    gahome2mom/at/gmail/dot/com

  3. We use our own bags instead of the grocery store bags. We also have changed out our lightbulbs for more energy efficient ones.

  4. At home we recycle all items we can, use hand towels instead of paper towels, this summer we plan to grow a veggie garden with the kids!

  5. To go green, we try to reuse everything – everything usually has a good 2 ways to use it before you have to throw it away. I’m also trying to get into the reusable shopping bag swing. I don’t quite have enough just yet though. Thanks for the chance!

  26. We recycle aluminum cans, newspapers & magazines. We also have a programable thermostat to turn the heat down during the night and when we are at work.

  27. Nichelle Spinner

We shut off lights during the day, use natural sunlight. The kids and I started a recycling program, which helps out with the school and we have less trash going into our trash bins. We have a compost pile outdoors, that does also feed the deer that wander around in the woods. 10 min showers for everyone.

  28. We recycle newspapers and plastic containers. Turn off water when brushing teeth. Turn off fans, lights, computer when not in use. Our thermostat is programable so heat and air turn off when we are not home. Hang clothes to dry as much as possible to limit dryer use. Also, walk to store unstead of using the car.

  29. To live green I recycle all of our clothes and shoes etc and take them to the local charity for other people to use!

  30. I use cloth napkins and I don’t buy paper plates any longer. I also refill my plastic cup each day instead of getting a new one. I no longer buy bottled water, I use a water filter now.

  31. I recycle cans, no longer buy bottled water, I still cut up the plastic that holds cans together to prevent fish and other animals from getting them on a fin or flapper, I don’t use paper towels or paper plates, anymore.

  41. We have recently starting composting to reduce waste that goes into our landfills and gives us great compost for our vegetable garden.

  42. I do alot of little things…. separating garbage and recycling, energy saving lightbulbs, minimize the heat loss in my home, taking my grocery bags to the store. I firmly believe that if everyone will contribute with the little things, we help the world out as a whole.

  43. We reuse, reduce, recycle. We’ve put our water heater on a timer and wrapped it. Next, we’re going to install storm doors and windows.

  44. barbara wright

I try to be green to set a good example for my kids, but the most impressive thing I’ve ever done to be green was last weekend when we were volunteering at the Food Bank. We were putting bulk rice into smaller, zip-loc bags. I asked the guy in charge if he was going to throw away all the “boxtop for education” labels. He said yes!! So after the shift was over, I ripped them all off to donate to one of the smaller schools in our district. Then I asked if he was going to recycle the boxes. He said no. So I brought ALL of them to the recycling center. We bagged 31,000 pounds of rice that day, so that’s A LOT of zip loc bag boxes!

  45. We recycle metal and plastic, take short showers, hang the laundry, use reusable bags while shopping, use reusable containers for lunches, use energy saving lightbulbs. Every little bit helps!

  46. Oh wow, we do a lot to live green!

Recycle, reuse whenever possible, I use cloth pads vs. disposable, we use cloth napkins/wipes vs. disposable, etc. etc.!!

    THANKS.

  47. We have tried to become a little greener by watching our energy use…turn off lights, unplug electronics not in use, etc

  48. To live green in our home, we recycle everything we can, and we have also replaced our old bulbs with new cfls…….We love being green and I wouldn’t have it any other way!
