Some Moms Shouldn’t Change Diapers in the Dark

Sam, my almost 2 year old, has a bad habit of waking up at 2:00 or 3:00 in the morning lately.  When he does, I usually change his diaper and then bring him back to bed.  Half the time I don’t even remember doing it.  I just wake up with him next to me.

This morning, I woke up, made George’s breakfast and lunch, and then checked my emails.  Same routine every day.  Sam woke up.  I hugged him, nursed him, and he went back to sleep on the couch.

His brothers woke up, then he woke up, and the next thing I know his pants are off.  His diaper is amazingly twisted in the front, but still held together the way it should, with the tabs in the correct place.  Oh no!  Did he get it anywhere?  Thankfully, only on his jammies.

I don’t know how I did it, but I TOTALLY messed up his diaper.  I don’t even know how I did it!  The only thing I could think was that he was squirming around when I put it on?  The front was twisted and his little man part was exposed – of course that’s the only part of his body exposed right?

The diaper was a little damp and his pants were soaked.  Thankfully…thankfully he didn’t wet in the bed – ack!  That would have been a terrible mess to clean up.

My point is…..some moms just shouldn’t change diapers in the dark.  Usually I can do it, but I have NO IDEA what I did last night – lol!

I wouldn’t feel to bad about it. Lack of sleep, or sleep interrupted, can make you a little crazy. When it’s been going on for almost two years, I think you have a solid defense.

Just be glad he didn’t poo.

Aw! You were probably dead tired and didn’t even realize what you were doing. Lol
Glad it didn’t turn into a bigger mess then needed!

lol, hey at least you remembered to put a new diaper on. I remember Nicole waking me up once, and I went to change her, took the diaper off, cleaned her up, and snapped her jammies shut – totally forgetting to put a new one on. It too was very early in the morning:)

  7. I do the same thing with my 2 year old!…. 🙂

That’s so funny, Shannon. Well, I suppose it wasn’t funny at that time, but it sure is funny when you talk about it later. Blasted squirmy children! 🙂

I’m not laughing at you, but with you. That’s the only thing you can do when you make a little mommy goof like that. Besides, you had a reason, it was night and you are entitled to be sleepy during the dark hours.

  10. I was going to agree with Amy, but realized you haven’t been doing it for almost 2 years, you’ve been doing it for 5 years! You have a reason to be tired and make a mistake every now and then.
Sam didn’t seem to suffer any for it. 🙂
