Christmas Eve is Here!

I cannot believe Christmas Eve is already here!  Where did the year go?  I remember people telling me how quickly time would go once you had kids, but of course I didn’t believe them – lol!  I am so thankful to have beautiful and energetic (as overwhelming as it gets sometimes) boys, a husband who works hard for our family so that I can be a stay-at-home mom, parents who love and advise us whenever they get the chance, and for my health.  I am so thankful to live in a heated home and be able to experience the beauty of a tree lit up at night.  I am thankful for The Mommy-Files and the experiences and friends it has brought into my life (that means all of you out there).  There is so much to be thankful for!

In our family, we have traditions we like to do each year.  Usually, we buy a Christmas tree permit and go into the forest to pick our “perfect” Christmas tree.  Sometimes it takes 1 or 2 trips to find the right one (and not just the top of a buried tree – lol).  We also have a tradition of making gingerbread houses each year with the kids.  Plus, there is the making of cookies and leaving them with milk for Santa Claus.  As well as reading “The Night Before Christmas” to our boys.

I’ve also made it a tradition to buy a pair of new jammies for the boys and my husband to open up on Christmas Eve.  I didn’t buy myself any that year, but I love buying for others and watching their faces as they open it up.  A lot of thought and work goes into choosing presents – sometimes even stress – lol!

What are some holiday traditions you have in your family?

I feel have slacked in the tradition dept, because we are always away from home for Christmas. Next year it is going to be JUST US! Anyways I also like to do a gingerbread house, PJs on Christmas Eve, and I also make sugar cookies. We read Christmas stories all through the month, and watch Christmas themed movies too. I love the holidays!!

I am not completely ready for Christmas. some traditions we have is we go to my in-laws for Christmas eve, (either sil or bil). Christmas day is usually with my family at my moms, but this year that is changing and we are having it at our place. We always smoke either a turkey, a ham or both. THis year its ham. We bake lots of goodies to eat and share. Merry Christmas

  3. Every year I want to start a big tradition but then it gets so crazy busy and it seems Christmas just sneaks up. But we do go to my parents for a christmas eve feast which is nice. And it is also nice that my husbands parents join us so it is everybody and my girls love it. But I would like to have a unique tradition just for our family every morning. Maybe I will think of something by tomorrow ;).

Also just want to say great blog! I have been reading for a couple months now but this is my first comment. I wanted to get my own blog up and running before I started commenting on others. Not sure why… But I just want to say hi and great job.

    Merry Christmas.

  4. As I’ve mentioned before, we always watch “It’s a Wonderful Life” on Christmas Eve… we have it on DVD, and this year we got a BluRay and The Hubs got the movie on BluRay for me… such a sweetie.
Of course we haven’t hooked up the unit, because we need an HDMI splitter, and it hasn’t been delivered in yet ( we ordered it – cheaper in the mail ).
I usually make tons of cookies… I couldn’t this year because of my neck surgery, but will again next year. I love to bake and pass them out to all of our friends & family.

I agree-I simply couldn’t believe Christmas Eve came so fast!! Seriously, I CLEARLY remember last year like it was yesterday and then I remember it was a year ago…It’s seriously so bizarre.
It sounds like you guys have some very fun family traditions! I would LOVE to be able to go and pick out my own tree at least one year just to see how it feels.
Here, one of our traditions is that my sister and I exchange on Christmas Eve, and of course when we go to bed, that’s when the wrapping starts! LOL
We never see any of our presents until the morning of because they aren’t wrapped yet 🙂
But we wouldn’t have it any other way!

  6. My boys got pajamas before Christmas as well!
