I Am a Mother….and Then a Blogger!

I am beyond frustrated right now (to the point of tears).  I had recently turned the comment moderator on because comments were coming through that were inappropriate (I’m afraid to say the word for fear I’ll get twice as many).  As many of you know, especially those who follow my blog on a regular basis, this past week was extremely busy for my family and I.  There was my 10 year wedding anniversary, Thanksgiving, my oldest son’s birthday, and many holiday and family related activities.  I was quite busy and unable to focus on my blog as much as I would have liked to.  I am getting back on track though.

There are 1100 comments waiting to be moderated, which I am actually approving while typing this post.  I could have done them last night, but I felt it was more important to sit down with my family and eat dinner and talk to my husband about how his day went.

This is not “just” a blog.  I HATE that statement.  It makes me cringe, just like the phrase, “just a mom.”  I put so much hard work and effort into this blog.  However, let me make this very clear.  I am a MOM…..and then a Blogger.  It’s not the other way around.  If my kids are sick, I take care of them instead of my blog.  If it’s my sons birthday, I plan his party and make him feel special instead of approve comments.  Most of my readers and PR reps I work with are quite understanding about this and I am thankful for it.

Thank you to those who are patient and understanding.  I love my site and the companies I get the opportunity to work with.  I know that you all work hard on your comments and I totally appreciate that.  I enter other giveaways as well.  I know it takes time and effort.  It also takes time and effort on my part to find companies to work with or products to review, as well as to review the products, facilitate the giveaways, and be the contact person for the winner and the company.

Your patience and understanding is beyond appreciated.  If it weren’t for you all, The Mommy-Files wouldn’t be where it is today.

Thanks for listening to me vent!

It’s hard to believe anyone would say anything mean to you, you’re a total sweatheart. I’m sure all your loyal readers (including myself) understand that family always comes first 🙂

  2. i soo hear you! mom and wife first and then blogger!

  3. 1,100 comments waiting to be moderated? WOW!

I too am a mother before a blogger. My hubby would probably have an objection but I do take care of my kiddos when sick and healthy…

You are a total sweetheart! I am glad I met you through vlogging….
Hope U have a good week.

Oh sweety I hear ya, I had to turn the blog moderator on also because of some hateful comments that came across my blog. I don’t feel as though it’s just a blog and I agree with you I hate that statement. I will pray that you will get your comments done in a timely manner.

It is just awful that some leave nasty grams and then wonder why you had to go on lock down.

Truly its suppose to be the Holiday season of giving or so I thought lol.

Try to have a good day.

I am glad to hear you say those words…Honestly If I thought you put Blogging before your kids or family…I wouldn’t read your blog! You’re awesome.

  6. Heidi Bokor says:

I am not much of a blogger, but I participate on ones that seem good. I can’t understand why people would blog bad things or use inappropriate language. It makes no sense to me. All mom’s should be mom’s first and everything else second. Thanks for the statements that you have made. Maybe they will get people thinking.

  7. I’m sorry to hear that people were rude to you. I understand the motherly thing – whenever my godson is here visiting, I barely even look at my blog (I don’t see him much, so whenever I do, everything else gets left behind).
I wish that people were smarter and could understand that life is not about winning giveaways — it’s about family & friends. And I, personally, agree with Dana – if you put your blog before your family, I probably wouldn’t read your blog.

  8. Cindy says:

Lady, I do not envy you having to go through that many comments. Hang in there!

  9. Nikki says:

Awwww – well I don’t comment much but I certainly appreciate all the effort you put intoyour blog each and every day … thanks !!

And you are a GREAT mother BTW and an inspiration 🙂

It’s tough keeping up and my blog isn’t near as big as yours! Sometimes I think I spend way too much time blogging. I’m cutting back in December because I have a huge event coming up January 1st. Events are very stressful! Just remember you’ll get a little breather after it’s over. I don’t think I could pull of an event in December, you’re doing a great job!

I was getting porn comments on mine! That makes me so mad….

  11. Carrie says:

I’m so sorry to hear that people are being mean to you- your blog is great and I think you’re doing a wonderful job with it!

  12. gosfam says:

That is what I love about you. You are a MOM first. You have your priorities straight in my opinion 🙂

Keep up the good work, and look at all the positives :)!!

I am glad to see you are recovering from a FUN-FILLED family week.

  13. hey sweets you take it easy! We all deserve a day down and you crazy lady do too! See you Saturday at Great Wolf where the kids can run and we can relax 😉

  14. What a shame that a few bad apples are making more work for you. I agree your blog is definitely not just a blog – it could be classified as a website for all the work you’ve put into it. I do hate that blogs are sometimes looked down upon as being simple and something anyone can do, when yours is a great example of the amazing level to which they can be taken. Good luck sorting through everything hopefully it will go quickly.

I’m sorry about the rude comments. That is awful.. and I’m also sorry to add another comment that you have to approve. I just want to say thank you again for hosting the Blogger’s Santa Swap. I have received my package, if you want to take a peek at what I got swing by my latest blog. Also my partner is listen in there and she posted what I got her. I love my goodies.. thanks again.

  16. Jessica says:

very well said. years from now when blogs are obsolete and moms are still running strong you’ll be happy with the choice you made. standing ovation for the mommy-files.

  17. jaydensgrandma says:

That is too bad people can’t understand that you are just one person and of course a mommy first. I am sorry for other peoples rudeness!!! Your blog is such a nice one.

  18. Shannon says:

Thanks everyone for the wonderful comments. I’m doing the best I can. You all are great!

    Hugs!

  19. I am so sorry people have left rude comments! Didn’t they learn “If you don’t have anything nice to say, Don’t say anything at all?” Just remember the majority loves your blog and supports you 100%. It should always be Mother and Wife before Blogger…and we understand, most of us are in the same boat!

  20. LyndiLou says:

Shannon… I seriously love your bog and I’m SOOO sorry that people were being lame and mean. BLAH! Not. Cool. Keep on being awesome and I’ll keep cheering you on! YAY for Shannon and The Mommy-Files!!! ***:D***

  21. Dezi Allen says:

Good for you for putting the blog on hold, family should always be first. Sorry there’s lame people that make inappropriate comments. And I think it’s pretty obvious you put a WHOLE LOTTA effort into this blog!!

  22. zanymomintx says:

    Shannon,

You have your priorities straight and anyone that questions that should evaluate their priorities. Family always comes first, ALWAYS and if you want to raise your children with those values then you also have to demonstrate them.

  23. Kitty says:

I hate to add another comment for you to read, but I agree with the others. Keep up the good work and it will get better! And don’t forget that you need to also take care of yourself and not just your family.

  24. Rebecca O says:

I am so glad that you are a mom first and a blogger second. I wouldn’t be following this blog if it where the other way around. And it shows in your posts and pictures. You really love your family.I feel that family comes first and am glad that you do too. As a matter of fact, I am glad that you chose to spend time with the family, rather then moderate comments. I know that this blog is important to you, and I wish that others where more understanding. I am glad to be a reader and follower. I am sorry that there are people who don’t understand this. You have my support. 🙂

  25. Erica says:

I read this post the other day and meant to comment. I just want to let you know I think your awesome. I don’t know how you do it all just reading your blog sometime makes me tired so I couldn’t imagine running a household on top of that. 🙂 Your blog is hands down one of if not my favorite mommy blog to read and it not just because you have amazing giveaways. You are genuinely a helpful, sweet and entertaining (love the Monday Mingles) woman. So just keep doing what your doing. 🙂

  26. Badger Momma says:

I’m so sorry that someone’s been giving you a hard time. You’ve been nothing but stellar in my book and I love communicating with you! You have such a great blog (and one of my ultimate faves!) and I know you keep super busy with other blogs and interests as well. You have a lot of blogosphere support from the rest of us. Just tell us what you need, Shannon, and we’ll be there for you.

I’m sending a HUGE hug in your direction!!!

  27. Jammie says:

Aww (((hugs))) Breath it will be ok. I love your blog. I love winning from your blog. I have won lots of goodies here. I like reading your jokes as well. Although i do not comment often I read it in the shadows.

I have done a few reviews myself and I know reviews and writing the post is not easy. You have to figure out the correct wording to use and so forth. God Bless you and keep up the awesome work.

  28. mytwogirls says:

It totally sucks to hear that nastiness is happening. It is widespread lately and it is a shame especially in the holiday season. What a drag!

  29. Charlene Kuser says:

It is so hard to believe people can be so nasty about simple things. It makes me wonder what
they do when there is a real problem.I am a mother and it is always my first priority and I
completely understand what you are saying.Motherhood is the most important job in the
world.I know it makes you feel bad about the ones that say this stupid stuff, but don’t ever let
it.These same people are the same way with everyone they deal with and believe me
most of them have deep problems in their life and looking for a scapegoat IMHO

  30. Deb K says:

Honey~I just start following your Blog and I too think that you do wonderful job here! Take you time as we all know that family comes first! (((HUGS)))

  31. Jennifer M says:

I agree with you, Family First. Most people who leave comments like that does not know what background stuff that goes in to a good blog. It is hardwork and time consuming.
