QFC’s V.I.B.E. (Very Important Blogger Event) with Seattle Mom Bloggers & Giveaway!!

QFC logo

I love it when I have the opportunity to meet with other Seattle Mom Bloggers. This will be my 3rd Seattle Blogger Event and it was just as much fun as the other two!  Before attending the QFC V.I.B.E. (Very Important Blogger Event)  today (October 17th) in Seattle, I was a loyal Safeway shopper. I can honestly say that I was VERY impressed with the store and the quality of the food they sold. Their employees were extremely helpful and friendly and I am excited to begin shopping at their store (with a brand new one near my home)!

From left to right (Stacey, Carrie, Alexis, Kim, me, Angie, and Mona)

I learned a lot of new things from the QFC Very Important Blogger Event. For example, I had no idea that they had to open up the packages of bananas to prevent them from becoming overripe. Apparently, bananas trap a lot of heat and if the boxes aren’t opened to let the heat escape, they’ll ripen more quickly. Wow! I had no idea! I also had no idea that QFC was a division of Kroger and is associated with Ralphs (California), Smith’s (Utah), Food 4 Less, fry’s, King Soopers, City Market, Fred Meyer, Dillons, Baker’s, and Scott’s!  I was also excited to learn that QFC carries one of my favorite brands of hot chocolate – Stephen’s Hot Cocoa.

When we arrived, I grabbed a hot chocolate from Starbucks and met up my fellow mom bloggers and QFC representatives Nancy Moon-Eilers (QFC VP Merchandising and Marketing), Tammy Bottcher (QFC Sr. Director Advertising and Loyalty), and Kristin Maas (QFC Director Public Affairs).  We talked for a few minutes and then took a tour of the store.  I loved the floral department and the way it was decorated for Halloween.  We then proceeded to the bakery, where I saw the most adorable Frankenstein cake, followed by the candy section (woo hoo!), meat department, and health department.   I was extremely impressed with the meat department and the selection of meats they had.  I had never seen so many pre-marinated meats (aka Chef’s Express Selections) in a store before – it was amazing!  If you’re looking for a yummy and quick way to get a healthy meal, you definitely want to check out the meat department at QFC!

We then headed upstairs, where we had food awaiting us.  We were served the following items:  Pesto Pasta and Pea Salad, Caesar Salad, Chicken Dijon with Dijon Cream Sauce, Chicken Parmesan with Marinara Sauce, Chicken Florentine, Kalbi Flank Steak with Garlic Mashed Potatoes and Valencia Green Beans, and Double Layer Chocolate Cake (with Raspberry Filling, Chocolate Butter Cream Frosting, Chocolate Truffle Topping, and Chocolate Roses).

Lew talking about meats and cutting flank steak!  He was awesome!  Thanks Lew 🙂

QFC's VIBE Blogger Event (14)

Lew (meat department) demonstrated how to cut flank steak and talked about the Kalbi Flank Steak being like “candy meat.”  Let me tell you – it was GOOD!!!  The Garlic Mashed Potatoes and Valencia Green Beans went well with the flank steak.  We also had the opportunity to ask some questions to Donna Giordano – QFC President!

After eating and dessert, we were each given a bag of goodies from QFC!  We were given a QFC reusable tote, Kroger Mayonnaise, Kroger Peanut Butter, Kroger Cereal, Kroger Paper Towels, Taste-bud-icious Seasoning Packets, Active Lifestyle Oatmeal, Brittania Crisps, Kroger Coupon Book, and a $25 gift card for us and one to give away!

Plus, they had a giveaway for 3 bloggers to take home a centerpiece with them.  I was just saying earlier that I never won anything until I was introduced to blogging.  I figured I wouldn’t be one of the winners, but I was actually the first winner.  I got to take home a beautiful Fall centerpiece!  Thanks QFC!!!

As I said earlier, 1 lucky reader will win a $25 gift card (good at QFC and all other Kroger stores – listed above)!!!

I’d buy something to cook for dinner. Something I haven’t had alot of lately because of penny pinching.
    Maybe a steak!

  2. I would buy Ecce Panis bread. This is all natural, no preservative, incredibly good bread and Kroger is the only store in our area that sells it. If you have never tried it, go for it!

  3. Well, since I would actually send the card to my “grandmother” in KY, *I* wouldn’t buy anything at all. 😛 But if we had a Kroger near us, I think we’d put it towards meats.

  4. If I won the card, I actually wouldn’t use it for myself. I would give it to my sister who had a very complicated pregnancy that required her and her husband to miss a lot of work and racked up high medical bills. They have a beautiful child now so I know it was worth it, but they could use some help. As much as she and her husband have always done for my family I’m glad to help them in any way I can. Being the giving people that they are, to be honest they might turn around and “pay it forward” themselves to someone more unfortunate than themselves but I know in the end it would end up with someone who really needs it.

  5. I would use the card to buy a Cook’s Ham. Kroger has always had a wonderful selection of Cook’s hams and it would last my family for several days of great eating.

  6. As cold and flu season is upon us, I’ll be buying orange juice, children’s motrin, saline spray, wipes, and hand sanitizer 😉

  7. I would buy some of the ingredients I need for my holiday cooking & baking… eggs, mustard powder, honey & vinegar for home made mustard as well as chocolate chips & ingredients for home made marshmellows.

  8. I would use the $25 to help restock my pantry, I seem to be running out of the basics like sugar, flour, cooking oil, etc. thanks!

  9. Apples are on sale 99 cents a pound at our Krogers- I want to make apple butter for Thanksgiving, and maybe can my own apple pie filling also.

  10. I’d use it to help buy the ingredients for our Thanksgiving dinner–turkey, stuffing, potatoes, pumpkin, cranberry sauce, etc.

  11. I would stock up on meats and chicken and veggies. I can get SO much with the good sales they have at Kroger!!

  12. I wouldn’t buy anything- I’d give it to my unemployed son who would probably get some fresh fruits and vegetables with it.

  13. I would use it at Bakers for fresh produce (they have the best) and also stock up on paper towels and tp for the upcoming holidays

  14. I went over there to vote, it did not tell me HOW to vote. I clicked on your pic there and it brought me back to your blog. So if that is a vote..i voted for you. If it is NOT a vote, let me know and I will follow your directions to make sure it counts.

  15. I would probably buy what I always buy — bread, milk, soft drinks, lunch supplies! Thanks for the opportunity — congrats on winning the door prize.

  16. i would buy my personal staples: cereal, milk, zone bars, Gatorade and Coke Zero (I hope nutritional value doesn’t affect eligibility!)

  17. I would buy whatever I’m low on, because my regular store is a Kroger’s anyway (Ralph’s). I love Ralph’s and shop there for 95% of my groceries. I’d certainly get great use of another $25 to spend at my store! BTW, if you get the chance, try Kroger microwave popcorn. It’s WAY better than the national brands!
    Thank you for the giveaway.

If I won this prize I would actually buy some yummy snacks for the kids. It is nice to give them a treat now and again.
    Thank you

  19. I would gather all my coupons and try to make the extra money go farther by purchasing items I do use and also have a coupon for.

  20. I’d save it for when Kroger has their 10/$10 deals, which is usually about once a month or so. Then I’d use it to stock up on milk, fruit snacks and whatever they have for that deal.

  21. I would hit the sales with a handful of coupons to buy Lean Cuisines, Salad mix, and Honeycrisp apples. Oh – and some donuts for my co-workers.

  22. Krogers usually has a good selection of ethnic foods that are not available in other stores; I would try more of these.

  23. They have great deli roast chickens at the Fred Meyer store here, so I’d get one of those along with a couple sides like potato salad, green salad, etc.

  24. i would use the $25 gc to buy Thanksgiving dinner for my family. a turkey, sweet potatoes, stuffing mixes, dessert, drinks, green bean casserole fixings… i am hungry now ; ) clallen at ntin dot net

  25. My husband really enjoys a Grolsch from time-to-time, and Krogers is the only place to find it around here, so I would choose that with my gift card.

    Thank you.

  26. I just got back from Kroger and spent almost as much as my husband made this week..yikes. I usually shop only 2 times a month there. I would buy food 🙂 and diapers 🙁

  27. I would use this to buy food for Thanksgiving. We’ve been really tight with money this year so having $25 to spend towards Thanksgiving would definitely help our family out.

  28. Thank you for the giveaway. Love Kroger!!

First I’d check the clearance shelf and the mark down on meat because, they normally have really great deals on mark downs. Then, I’d buy some staples (Bread, milk, etc.)

  29. Another great post.
Thank you for the information, Its good to see such quality posts.
    Im subscribing to your blog.
    Keep them comming.

  30. Well, we’re running low on peanut butter and milk right now. Those are 2 staples that we use every single day and cannot live without. I’m actually planning on picking some up tomorrow, but I’m sure we’ll need more if I win and when the card gets here 🙂 Thanks!

  31. A $25.00 gift card from Kroger would provide us a Thanksgiving Meal – I would save it for that – so that it is one of the traditions that does not get changed this year…bad economy

  32. I would buy some salmon, halibut and fresh squash — the kinds of healthful foods I need to be eating with my plethora of medical problems.

  33. If I was only going to use it to get myself treats..I would spend it at the Olive/Mediterranean Bar they have at our local store… Mmmm..so yummy!

    Thanks

  34. If I won the gift card I would purchase yogurt and fresh fruit. It seems to be that my youngest daughter would rather eat these two things than anything else. I have one shelf in the fridge just for her that has to be full of yogurt.

  35. Deborah Wellenstein

I would get some cheese from the gourmet cheese center, (preferably a bleu), and some fresh shrimp from the fish dept. Thanks!

  36. I would purchase items for our taco night – ground beef, taco shells, seasonings, cheese, tomatoes and lettuce!!

  37. I think I would use it to stock up on basics for the holidays – pair it with sales and s-t-r-e-t-c-h it as far as possible!

  38. Hmmm…well there’s a lot I could buy at Kroger, but I’d probably buy chicken breasts, red potatoes, zuchhini, carrots, onions and rolls to make a nice meal! Thanks.

  39. Deborah Anderson

What would I buy? Let’s see… oh I know, I’d stock up on the holiday flavors that Coffeemate and International Delight put out at the holiday season. They are DELISH and get me hooked then they go away. Not fair!! 🙂

  40. I would give the $25 Gift Card to my son who is a college student. There is a Kroger Store in the city where he attends school. I would rather he use it if I win. Thank you.

  41. Sara Finkelstein

Shannon, I am a Seattle mom of a 7-year old boy and 4-year old girl, and I’m working on a video cooking series for which I’d love to contact the folks at QFC. I am having trouble finding contact info for the marketing folks you met with, because their website and contact numbers kick over to Kroger HQ in Ohio, and they don’t have a switchboard or phone numbers on file. Can you help? Thanks, Sara
