I Just Don’t Understand!

I am on the verge of tears as I sit down and read the news for today’s online.  At the top of the headlines was this “Murder-Suicide Confirmed in Md family’s death.”  A home improvement worker and school janitor killed his wife and two sleeping children and then turned the gun on himself last week.  The wife (age 37) and 2 children (ages 14 and 7) were found in their beds.  His body was lying next to the bed in the master bedroom.

There were no suicide notes left behind, but they believe financial matters may have been part of the husband’s/father’s motive.  Neighbors said their house had been on the market for over a year.  They also said they were scraping by, just like everybody else.

How can family and friends recognize the signs?  What can we do to help one another to avoid tragedies like this from happening?  My heart aches for those loved ones of this family.

Let’s make a goal to help support one another (whether emotionally or with physical goods).  We are all going through this recession together – some worse than others.  Whether you can provide a meal or offer words of comfort, you might just help someone get through the day!

It’s always so sad to hear about tragedies like this. I appreciate you posting about it and reminding all of us to look around and see how we can help each other. Thank you!

  4. Wow, I didn’t hear about this, but it sure is sad news. I understand things are bad right now, but how bad can they really be to go that far. I can see killing yourself… ok, not really see, but kind of understand how someone could feel that way. But how could you kill your family.

  5. Really so sad to hear about. How each of us deals individually with our trials is on a WIDE spectrum of difference. I hope I can be in tune to my friends and families around me to prevent an instance like this happening to someone around me. Life gets tough, but we have to lean on each other to get through.

    Oh wow…
Seeing those things always makes you wonder what’s the story behind the horrible action/outcome.
My heart goes out to those poor people’s families.

  8. That is so sad.
You’re right we are all going through this recession also, and sometimes it’s hard to remember that the small things are the best things.

  9. Just a few months back we had the same thing locally happen the husband killed his wife and his 3 chlidren. Very sad. I understand hardships Idon’t understand ending it all. To take your life is one thing, to take the life of your children and your wife is another 🙁 Sad
