Remembering 9/11
I remember the day clearly and it brings me to tears each and every time I think about it. I received a phone call from a family member telling me to turn on the news. I turned on the television and saw on literally every station the video of the first plane crashing into the World Trade Center. Oh my gosh! Was this real? Was I dreaming? How could this happen? These were the first thoughts that went through my head.
They kept replaying it over and over. There was footage of people jumping from the buildings because they couldn’t stand the heat any longer. People hanging over the side of the buildings yelling and waving for help. Then came the footage of a second plane heading towards the World Trade Center. My first thought was, please Lord, don’t let the plane hit the building. I watched as the plane crashed right into the building. I immediately began to cry, perplexed by how someone could do this to so many INNOCENT people. Men, women, children, husbands, wives, fathers, mothers, sons, daughters. I felt a panic come over me, hoping that the brave firefighters who risked their lives could get as many people out as possible.
Then I watched as the 2 towering buildings crumbled to the ground. No! How could this happen? In a moment’s time, thousands of lives were instantly ended. I personally didn’t know anybody who was in the World Trade Center, but in an instant I felt sorrow for them and their family members. I felt sad, yet proud of those who risked their lives to help others get out of the building to safety. I felt bonded with every other American citizen in a moment’s time. Our enemies thought this would make us weaker, but it has only made us stronger!
I was amazed by how quickly we became united as a country and as brothers and sisters! I was proud of the people who took the plane down to avoid another huge catastrophe from happening. Please join with me on September 11th in remembering those who died on this day and pray for those who continue to serve our country and keep America safe, preventing something like this from happening again! Let us stand as “One nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.”
