"The Siblings Busy Book" Review & Giveaway
I was excited to review The Siblings Busy Book by Lisa Hanson and Heather Kempskie. In The Siblings Busy Book, there are over 200 activities that all siblings can do together. I love that they incorporated activities for infants all the way up to children 9 years old! I’m constantly looking for activities that are productive to keep my kids busy and out of trouble. I also love that each activity talks about how babies, toddlers, preschoolers, and school-age kids can join in on the fun! This book is a celebrated winner of an iParenting Media Award!
I had the opportunity to interview the authors (Lisa Hanson and Heather Kempskie) with their children. Here are my questions and their answers!1. What inspired you to create The Siblingsβ Busy Book?
The day we thought of the book idea was just another typical afternoon with our children. As second time moms β with toddlers and newborns – we couldn’t seem to find a one “ways to have fun with your children” play book that addressed both age groups. We had newborns in our arms and toddlers hanging on our legs and simply declared, “We should write it!” Lisa has a degree in creative education and Heather is an editor of a local parenting publication. Our personal and professional experiences were the perfect match. At first this book was going to save the moms of the world β with easy, fun activities using common household items – but as the idea grew we knew we were conquering something even more important – the importance of the sibling relationship. It’s based on the concept that siblings who have fun together form lifelong bonds.
2. Do you have other books or new books coming out in the near future?
We’re working on it! Meadowbrook Press is interested in continuing to build their popular line of busy books and we’ve got tons of ideas. In the meantime, we’re happily plugging away on our Web site (www.busysiblings.com) and plan to launch a podcast this fall. Our goal is to give parents some quick tips on the joys and challenges of raising siblings and some unique ways to create sibling bonds through play!
3. What is one piece of advice you have for moms and parents out there?
Take time to have fun with your children. There are way too many distractions (believe us, we know!) but if you can forget about those nagging daily tasks for a few minutes a day, get on the floor with your kids and have fun, it’ll be worth it. These are the moments you and your child will always remember.
