May is the month for Mother’s Day, my birthday, Memorial Day…but it is also National Stroke Awareness Month! Did you know that more than one hundred thousand young and middle-aged women will suffer from strokes this year? One third of those who suffer strokes will be women who under the age of sixty five – that includes my age category! That is really scary!

Fortunately, there are new treatments for stroke victims that are promising, including stem cell therapy. Bone marrow provides adult stem cells that have been used in the treatment of stroke victims. However, harvesting bone marrow can be very invasive and painful. So, what is the alternative then?

New research has shown that similar adult stem cells are found in menstrual blood. At C’elle, women have the opportunity to cryo-preserve their menstrual blood, which carries stem cells and can be used to treat more than seventy five diseases and disorders, one of which is the stroke. Women are encouraged to be proactive in caring for themselves and their famlies.

C’elle makes it possible for women to collect and preserve stem cells from their menstrual flow and is the first of it’s kind to provide this service. Researchers at Cryo-Cell, which is well-known in the area of non-controversial stem cell research and preservation, developed C’elle. C’elle has helped more than 175,000 families preserve the umbilical cord blood of their babies. Umbilical cord blood has been used to more than seventy five diseases, including lymphoma, anemia, and leukemia. More than ten thousand transplants of umbilical cord blood have taken place.
