Six Strategies for Managing Anxiety Naturally

Your body’s natural response to stress is anxiety. It’s a fear or concern sensation that could be triggered by a variety of variables, including genetics, the environment, and brain chemistry, according to researchers. If your anxiety is interfering with your life and relationships, you should seek medical help. Before seeing a mental health specialist, your physician can assist in ruling out any underlying physical health issues. While many people with anxiety disorders require psychotherapy or medication to manage their symptoms, lifestyle changes and coping mechanisms can also be a great help.

Exercise

When dealing with anxiety, try to make it a habit to be physically active on most days of the week. Exercise is important not only for physical health, but for mental health as well. It’s a matter of personal preference when it comes to what type of exercise to do. Running or a HIIT (high-intensity interval training) class are your best bets if you want to really get your heart rate up, but workouts like yoga and Pilates can be just as useful if you want to start with something a bit lower impact. Choose exercises that you enjoy so you can look forward to them and begin to gently and progressively increase the quantity and intensity of your workouts.

Know Your Triggers

Consult your doctor to learn more about what’s causing your symptoms and which therapies would be most effective for you. Include your family and friends in the process and ask for their help. Look for potential triggers. Consider the times, situations, and places when you’ve felt the most apprehensive. If necessary, jot them down and look for patterns. Knowing what’s causing your worry can help you put your problems into context and when it happens again, you can be better prepared. 

Make a worry schedule. Although it may seem counterintuitive to plan to worry, some experts recommend that you set aside time to think about your anxieties. Spend 30 minutes figuring out what’s bugging you and what you can do about it. Every day, at the same time, have a “worry session” where you concentrate on the source of your anxiety.

Things to Avoid

When people are stressed, they may reach for an alcoholic drink, a cigarette, or even a cup of strong coffee. Unfortunately, these may provide a good way to take the edge off initially but aggravate anxiety over time. Alcohol, nicotine, and caffeine have all been linked to the development or worsening of anxiety disorders. There are other options to consider that may be better for helping you deal with anxiety. 

Herbal Supplements and Tea

Supplements can aid with anxiety management, but they are not a cure. Before attempting any new anxiety supplements, check with your doctor to see if there are any potential prescription interactions or safety issues. Some popular choices include magnesium, vitamin D3, saffron, curcumin, and CBD oil.  

Many herbal drinks and teas are also recommended to alleviate anxiety and improve sleep. While the process of making and drinking tea may be calming for some people, certain teas may have a more profound effect on the brain. You can try tea with kratom or chamomile tea. These are both popular home treatment options for calming nerves. 

Sleep

Sleep has been demonstrated to be an essential component of optimum mental health. Prioritize your sleep to ensure you get enough sleep and feel well-rested. Doctors recommend getting at least eight hours of sleep per night. A good way to ensure this is to pay attention to your sleeping patterns. Avoid screen usage before bed and try to stick to a schedule. Keep your bedroom cool and dark and make sure your bed is comfortable. 

Socialize – with People and Animals

Don’t let your anxieties keep you from seeing your loved ones or participating in activities. Volunteering in your community is a great way to do good for others and forget your worries. You’ll not only feel good about giving back, but you’ll also create relationships that can serve as a support system for you. Spending time with animals can also help to alleviate anxiety. If you cannot have your own pet at home, why not consider visiting an animal shelter weekly? The companionship and love provided by animals have been known to help many people dealing with anxiety. 

Apart from the six mentioned here, there are several other strategies you can adopt to assist you in managing anxiety naturally.

    Ive tried these and sometimes they help if it hasnt gone too far or gotten too bad,,,people just dont know how bad it can be until you experience it yourself
