For years, I’ve been getting acrylic nails painted with gel polish. I loved the wide variety of colors, as well as how quickly they dried when I used the gel polish. Whenever I tried to grow my nails naturally (that is without the acrylic or gel polish), it would prove unsuccessful as my nails would easily chip and peel. About a month ago, I decided to take off my acrylic and not turn back. I tried gel polish a few times, but then discovered another way to get my nails done – dip powder nails!

Apparently the dip powder nails process is not a new one, as my nail person had been doing it for about 5 years when she lived in Fresno, California. I heard about this from my hairstylist who had a lot of friends who were choosing this process at the nail salons as well. So, I did what any good blogger would do? I went and got them done with my daughters so I could share about it with you! I will say that I enjoyed the process (it was very relaxing) and loved the overall look of my nails when she was done!

When we first arrived at the nail salon, we were greeted by Mary and told her that we were looking to get dip powder nails (with one daughter getting the gel nails). She gave us a key chain with nail colors and we chose the colors we wanted. I thought there would be more, but I was happy there was one that purple in color. Because the powders are expensive, they are waiting to purchase more colors until they see how customers like it and how many request the dip powder.

So what are the benefits of the SNS Powder Dip Nails?

1 – HEALTHY – The base itself can be formulated to build the health and strength of the natural nail.

2 – MORE COLORS With its dipping powders, SNS offers over 400 Gelous colors— a wider range than any other major brand.

3 – ODORLESS – There’s virtually no odor, and that’s a huge change in the salon environment.

4 – FAST – Drying is instant— no UV light is required.

5 – FLEXIBLE & STRONG – The resulting nail is both flexible and strong, so it combines the best of acrylics and of gels.

6 – LASTING – The treated nails last 14 days or more in real-life everyday use.

7 – LIGHTWEIGHT – The nail feels light and natural, and yet it’s strong enough to use for those demanding chores.

8 – STAINLESS – The nail doesn’t stain: that’s a big deal for hair colorists and others who work with dyes.

9 – GREAT NAIL ART – The SNS dipping powders open up a whole new world of nail artistry.

When it was our turn, we took turns sitting at the chair at the nail table. The first thing she did was ask the number of the color we wanted. Teah went first (dip powder) and then Corrine (gel) and then me (dip powder). I have to admit that before I went to get the dip powder nails, I watched a few videos on the process. It was super helpful, although I found myself relaxing more than paying attention to the actual process. The powder was nice and cool and very relaxing. I didn’t even know much about dip powder until my hair stylist recommended it and said she loved it way more than the gel! There are a number of powders available, but the one that my nail stylist used was the SNS Gelous Color.

Once she pulled out the nail color, she smoothed my nail top (with an electric nail drill tool) and then filed and buffed my nails. Then she applied a coat of clear polish, followed by dipping each fingernail in powder immediately after applying the clear coat.

The process was repeated about three different times. After dipping the nails each time in the dip powder, Mary would press down on the nail, compacting the powder together.

After she dipped it the final time, Mary buffed it with an electric nail drill tool. After that, she buffed it and then filed it again. Once that was done, she finished up with a coat of clear gel and had me put my nails in the UV machine to dry them.

Overall, I really liked the process and will definitely be going back to have it done again! Be sure to check out the dip powder nails the next time you get your nails done!

I’ve been liking it so far. I love that the ends near my cuticles haven’t started peeling back like the gels typically do. You should check it out and get some pampering at the same time. 🙂
