Enjoying a Relaxing Day in Mahogany Bay on Isla Roatan
One of the many things I love about my husband is his shared love for cruising and traveling. While we don’t travel as often as some bloggers out there, we do enjoy our yearly getaway (usually lasting about a week or so). Last year, we took a cruise via the Carnival Conquest to the Western Caribbean. Usually we don’t book excursions, but for this cruise, we did and it was pretty great! While some were definitely better than other, our “excursion” in Mahogany Bay was awesome and so relaxing!!! In fact, I really didn’t want to leave! Our cruise included stops at Cozumel, Mexico; Mahogany Bay, Isla Roatan; Grand Cayman Islands; and Belize. There were a number of different excursions that other cruisers went on, such as ziplining, snorkeling and horseback riding complete with horsing equipment like western saddle, but the one we loved was the Cabana Beach Rental. It was so relaxing and the staff was super friendly!
When we got off the ship at the port, we were greeted by a variety of shops and local musicians providing free entertainment. They were so sweet and some of them even tried to interact with the crowds by dancing with them. They had a tip box set out, which is probably the main way they earn their money.
After listening to the music for a few minutes, we headed over to the beach area. In order to get to the private beach, you can either walk for a little ways in the hot sun or you can take a 5-minute chairlift ride on the Magical Flying Beach Chair. With the Cabana Rental, we received complimentary chairlift tickets. Honestly, we would have taken the chairlift even if they weren’t free.
Frank was relaxed on the chairlift, however, I was a little anxious. Heights make me nervous (maybe someday I’ll get over this) and I was worried about dropping one of my flip flops or losing my hat or my purse falling or something.Β I was definitely more relaxed on our way back into town. Funny how that works, right?
After the 5-minute chairlift ride, we were pretty much right at the beach. And there were so many beach chairs!!! Some had umbrella like covers and others were open completely to the sun. It was a little bit of a walk, but you could definitely tell that the beach was where a lot of the cruisers and tourists headed.
We entered the private beach area where our cabana was at and a staff member walked us through the beach chairs in through a gate and to our Beach Cabana Rental. Our cabana was actually the furthest one away and had a cute sign on the front of it Welcoming theΒ Gurnee Family.
Upon arriving at the Cabana, they unlocked and opened the door and brought us a menu. Inside the cabana was a ceiling fan, mini refrigerator, a television, two couches and a coffee table. As I mentioned earlier, the staff was very friendly and really made it an enjoyable and relaxing experience. In the mini fridge were some bottles of water and soda and I believe fruit. On top of the fridge was a bag of chips.
Many of the other cabanas had a lounger or hammock with a mist spraying over them, however, ours was broken, so they provided us with a lounger in the water. Unfortunately, we didn’t get much use out of it because I burn really easily and didn’t even wanna mess with it. It would have been awesome to have the hammock with the mist though!
Our server was Johnny (he was really sweet and funny) and our beach security guard was Ray Charles (yep, like the singer). They were both very attentive and friendly and we could tell their overall goal was for us to have an amazing day.
After getting our stuff organized and settling in, it was time to order some beers and food and start relaxing. You could either order individual mixed drinks or beers or a bucket of beers (that’s what we went with). We also ordered Loaded Nachos, which were super yummy and went really fast! Ha ha!
One of the benefits of our cabana being on the end was that we weren’t too far away from the bathrooms. We walked behind the cabana and hopped over the rope and there were the bathrooms (clean and fully stocked with toilet paper).Β Next to the bathrooms was a bar with live music and games, such as horseshoes.
If we ever visited Mahogany Bay at Isla Roatan again, we would both sign up for this excursion in a heartbeat. I’m pretty sure this one went pretty quickly too! I highly recommend it to anyone looking to relax and who wants their own private space with a beautiful ocean view and great service!
Have you been to Mahogany Bay on Isla Roatan before?

Roatan is a gorgeous place. My wife and I have been there a few times, and it’s always a great experience.
My husband and I have stayed in Roatan before, and we love Mahogany Bay. It’s so beautiful there.
Wow! It looks like so much fun! Glad you enjoyed your time!
Now that sounded like a really relaxing time. The cabana must have been really nice to hang out in and it’s cool that you can head out to the bar at any time.
We have traveled to numerous places throughout the Caribbean, but never to Roatan. Love the idea of a private cabana and that misting system is a great touch as well.
What an amazing looking get away. Ok I need to book a trip there right now
Those hammocks in the mist look amazing. Your cabana seems like my kind of excursion.
You guys are adorable. It looks like you had an amazing time!
What a gorgeous place to have a vacation! I’ve been wanting to get to a body of water the soonest. So tired of all this cold weather. Let me talk this over with my hubby. Maybe we can squeeze in a few days to experience Mahogany Bay too.
I think that it will be just wonderful enough to be in the presense of such a nice place. Thank you for your help.
These are great info! Would love to visit here and have a relaxing vacation this summer!
Amazing photos! I’m so bummed we missed Mahogany Bay on our cruise. A man on our ship had a heart attack and needed medical attention so our ship was forced to skip it.

This looks like a great time! Very cultural too.
Cruising is one of my favorite ways to travel. You can do as much or as little as you want. We don’t always do the excursions either.
Wow! This place looks like a ton of fun! I will have to check it out!
