Back in October, we surprised our kids with a trip to Hollywood, California.  We love to travel in our RV because it’s packed with food, power and a bathroom! It definitely makes road trips easier and more fun! A while ago, Frank purchased tickets for our family of 8 to go and see The Nightmare Before Christmas with Danny Elfman and a live orchestra at The Hollywood Bowl. It was really awesome! I’d never been to The Hollywood Bowl before and neither had our kids, so it was a great experience!

We arrived at The Hollywood Bowl early with our kids dressed up in costume. They went to different booths for trick-or-treating and had a blast. It was nice because bags were provided for the kids to do trick-or-treating at the different booths. Food and drinks were available for purchase during the event as well.

The Hollywood Bowl is an awesome place and is huge! It’s an outdoor arena and on the stage during the movie was an orchestra performing live, conducted by John Mauceri. During the movie, Danny Elfman sang and was the voice of Jack Skellington. Plus, Catherie O’Hara and Paul Reubens also performed during the movie, doing the voiceovers of Sally and Lock. The movie played on big screens throughout the Hollywood Bowl (one big one above the stage and two on each side of the stage).

We brought blankets for everyone in the family, however, it was a pretty warm night, so they weren’t needed.  We were seated in section L15, which were long benches. Frank discovered that we could rent cushions for the seats and that was a great idea! Oh my gosh, it made it so much more comfortable than I’m sure it would have been! I would love to sit in the Garden boxes someday, but those tickets were much more expensive.

My sister lives in Southern California and it just so happened that she was also at the show that night! It was nice to meet up with her because we don’t see each other that often during the year. They agreed that it was a great performance!

I hope we can take our kids to this event again next year as it was really fun! Thanks Danny Elfman for doing such an amazing job!

  3. I am so jealous! The Nightmare Before Christmas is one of my favorite movies ever and I LOVE Danny Elfman, Cathrine O’Hara and Paul Reubens!

  4. Wow! What a coincidence to see your sister in the same show. That looks like a lot of fun! Wish we have an RV too so it’ll be easier and somehow cheaper (exclude the price of RV) for our big family. Haven’t seen that show yet btw.

  5. That was a great experience. Being with family on special events like that is such a memorable experience. I am also looking for a time to hangout with my family. It is not always that we are together so being with them is very precious.
