Daylight Saving Time Reminds Us to Protect Our Homes + Giveaway
Can you believe it’s almost Daylight Saving Time Again? Time to get prepared and set our clocks forward around the house. While we’re setting our clocks forward in preparation for Daylight Saving Time, it’s also a great time to check and make sure our smoke alarms are working.
As March and the beginning of Daylight Saving Time approaches, fire safety experts will be urging homeowners to check alarm batteries at the same time they change their clocks. This is also a great time for Californians to replace old alarms with alarms containing 10-year, sealed-in lithium batteries.
It is really important to not only install smoke alarms, but to make sure they are working correctly. It can be really easy to install them and forget about them. This small task could potentially keep our family safe in the event of a home fire. According to a recent report issued by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), three out of five U.S. home fire fatalities occurred in homes with no smoke alarms or no working alarms, mainly due to dead or missing batteries.
We use Kidde Worry-Free smoke alarms in our home. We have them in the kitchen, in the bedrooms and in the hallways. We also have a few fire extinguishers around our home. Another place we’ve thought about putting a smoke alarm is in the garage. We actually had a fire recently in our garage. We were charging a battery and it caught on fire. We were in the front room and heard a loud explosion and we opened the door to the garage, the back wall was up in flames. Thank goodness we were home and thank goodness the cars weren’t in the garage when it happened. After that incident, we especially saw how important having a smoke alarm is! Having working smoke alarms can save lives, as well as your property!
