Most of my life, I’ve wanted to be a teacher. No joke! When I was in elementary school, I wanted to be a doctor, but when I really started looking at potential careers, I fell in love with the idea of teaching. My grandma and grandpa on my dad’s side were both teachers and they inspired me to want to be a teacher as well. As I went through college, I changed my major about 10 times and 7 of those times I changed it to Elementary Education. When I got closer to graduation, it was just time to graduate and I ended up finishing with a Bachelor’s Degree in Family Science with a Minor in Business Management. To this day, if I were to work for another career, it would be that of a teacher.

As a young woman, I was blessed to have amazing teachers! They were teachers who were stern, nurturing and encouraging. They pushed me to learn as much as I could and do the best I could – essentially becoming the woman I am today. Even though I’m not a teacher myself, I try to do as much as I can to help and support those teachers in our children’s lives. I do a lot of that through the use of my phone.

Our mobile devices do so much for us today! We can connect with family and friends, research topics and everyday issues and share experiences with the world through words and pictures! Mobile devices also inspire people and connect communities. They’ve shown to be a powerful tool for good. One can #UseIt4Good simply by brightening someone’s day through an encouraging text, or changing someone’s life through a connected charity. In our life, we’ve used our mobile devices to do good, especially when it comes to education.

How can you use your mobile device to #UseIt4Good when it comes to education? We have a few different ways!

1 – Purchase books for the classroom. We love to order books, especially through Scholastic. Remember those newspaper issues we received in school filled with books when we were in school? Now it’s as simple as entering your teacher’s classroom ID and ordering both books for your child and the classroom. Sometimes the teachers have wish lists or you can just give them a gift certificate to purchase the books they’d like to have.

2 – Purchase supplies for the classroom. I love to order things online and have found it super easy to order office supplies, snacks and other goodies for use in the classroom. In fact, I can order them all from my home and even have them delivered directly to the school! It’s as easy as the push of a button!

3 – Donate money to help buy things for the classroom. Both my husband and I love to purchase things online. We also love to help our teachers monetarily any time we can. An easy way to do that is by purchasing a gift card. You can do that through Amazon.com or a variety of other store sites. They can then buy snacks, office supplies and a number of other items to help run their classroom efficiently.

4 – Send pictures that will last a lifetime. As a work-at-home mom, I have loved going on field trips with our kids. I am one of those eager parents who actively get involved and begin snapping pictures without even having to be asked to do so. On the last few field trips, I’ve actually used my phone to send those photos directly to the teacher’s emails. They’ve been truly grateful and have loved the photos I sent to them!

5 – Enroll in programs that donate money to your school. We all need to buy groceries, so why not have a percentage go to your school? Through our mobile devices, we can sign up for programs like www.escrip.com or www.Target.com/TCOE. With these programs, a percentage of our purchases is donated to our schools to help fund programs and purchases needed for educating our children.

There are so many different ways we can use our mobile devices to make a difference in our communities. We can make a difference in our communities, in our education system and with the military!
