School is back in session! That means early mornings, schoolwork during the day and no more late nights during the week. However, just because school is in session doesn’t mean kids can’t still have fun! In fact, we as parents can make learning fun for our kids! Our kids love to swim, go bowling, play games, cook and more! With each activity, we as parents get the chance to teach them how to socialize with one another, how to work as teams, how to use math and language skills in everyday activities.
Swimming helps kids to develop physical skills and social skills. They learn to socialize with one another and exercise their muscles while having fun at the same time.
Bowling helps kids work on their social skills, math skills and physical skills. They learn to work as a team and encourage one another. They learn to count – such as counting how many pins they knocked down, as well as how many they need to knock down. They also develop their physical skills – throwing the ball and learning to roll the weight-filled, colorful bowling ball.
Playing games is another way to make learning fun for our kids! Whether it’s playing board games or playing with water balloons, playing games helps our kids learn to use their social skills, math skills and critical thinking skills. Plus, it’s fun and helps grow relationships!
While heading back to school and the transitions that come with it can be hard, we as families can still have fun (as you can see above). I am always looking for new ways to bring new learning experiences to my kids.
I try to squeeze in teachable moments wherever I can, especially when we are having fun. My 5 year old is working on letters sounds and letter recognition, so I’ll often ask him what something starts with that relates to what we are doing. For example, if we are at the playground, I may ask what “slide” starts with while we comes down it.

We definitely try to incorporate fun while learning or explaining things to our kids. I love how learning happens organically when we’re out doing something fun.
When we homeschooled, I tried hard to make learning fun! We went to lots of museums and did plenty of fun trips- like bowling!
These are all great ways to have fun and learn at the same time. Bowling and swimming are two of our favorite activities.
I loved bowling as a kid. We once had a field trip where we had to use the paper scoring sheets to play and it really taught us how it was done!

Games and learning always work well with my kids. Lately they love experiments!
My kids love games and learning. So I always try to see what type of games I can make homework out of or reading. There are lots of fun things to do, and make it a better experience. I remember when I was in school my mom didn’t do anything like that for me and it was a huge schore to do work.

Kids always learn more when they are having fun. I tried to make up games for the kids when they did their homework.
There are so many great learning opportunities to be had when you explore the world and have fun. Doing the physical activities like swimming has the additional benefit of helping my kids focus when it’s time to do the written work.
I think it is great to think of fun ways for kids to learn. Some people do learn better when they are being phisical.
We play a lot of learning games in our home. We home school my son, so making learning fun helps.
