In the afternoon, I head out the door to the school to pick up our kids.  I load them up in our Tahoe and head home.  As soon as they walk through the door, they take their shoes off, drop their backpacks off by the front door and make a bee line to the kitchen in search for an afternoon snacks.  I want to have snacks available for them are healthy, easy to make and taste good.

4 Easy After-School Snacks for Kids

1 – Fruit plate.  When I say a fruit plate, I’m not talking about the gourmet one you get at a fancy restaurant.  I’m talking about strawberries, grapes, sliced bananas and sliced apples.  You could literally pull a few of these fruits out of the fridge, wash them up and serve them up within a few minutes.  If you want to go the extra mile, serve them with peanut butter or yummy hazelnut spreads.

2 – Yogurt and granola.  Depending on the age of your child, they might just prefer yogurt by itself.  You can fruit to the yogurt as well.

3 – Sandwiches.  Sometimes a half sandwich will really take the edge off your child’s hunger.  Add some variety with Peanut Butter and Jelly, Egg Salad, Chicken Salad, Meat and Cheese or just Cheese!

4 – Cheese.  Our kids love crackers and a great protein to add to this snack is cheese.  I like to mix it up a little bit – switching between Cheddar, Mozzarella and Havarti.  The kids really like it when they can make their own “Cheese Sandwiches” with the cheese and crackers!  Cheese also goes really great with fruit (especially with grapes and apples)!  One of my favorite snacks is cheese – whether it’s in a sandwich, with fruit or by itself.  Our kids like cheese too!  I like to cut it into chunks, slices and even fun shapes!  You can go crazy with the shapes – trust me (especially when it’s holiday-themed)!

At our local grocery store, I found a great selection of cheeses.  One of our favorites is the Arla Dofino brand.  I was impressed by how many different Havarti cheeses there were from Arla Dofino.  There was Dill Havarti, Creamy Havarti, Jalapeño Havarti, Light Havarti and Smoked Havarti.  The Smoked Havarti is so good and my favorite!  The Creamy Havarti is great for spreading on crackers.  We had a #HavartiParty at our house!

The Arla Dofino brand of cheese, made by Arla Foods, includes a naturally delicious range of family-friendly cheese flavors, such as Havarti, Gouda, Edam and Fontina.  These hormone-free and additive-free cheeses are great for school lunches or afternoon snacks!

Have you tried the Arla Dofino Cheeses?  What’s your favorite flavor?
