So you’ve gone golfing several times, and you’ve decided you love the sport enough to invest in your own set of golf clubs. While there are many types of golf clubs out there, the must-have club is the wedge. The golf wedge is similar to a gold iron, except that the wedge has a greater loft, which means that you’ll put more spin on your ball, and have more accuracy with your shot. Additionally, a golf wedge has bounce, which means that the angle from the bottom of the sole to to the top leading edge is higher, which means you’re much more likely to drive your ball high, rather than into the ground.

Common types of golf wedge clubs include the lob wedge, the gap wedge, and the sand wedge. The gap and sand wedge are similar, while the lob wedge differs in that it’s best for short hits that require a lot of altitude and spin.

When shopping for wedges, don’t hesitate to ask the golf store employee for the chance to try out the wedges you’re interested in. Golf wedges and clubs in general can be a pricey investment, and most golf shops are very accommodating when it comes to offering customers the opportunity to take a few practice shots.
