A Simple Approach to Health Insurance
I am a full-time, work-at-home mom. I’ve worked full-time before, but it was with a company who offered 401K benefits, tax benefits, and health insurance. Now as someone who owns her own business, I don’t have those same benefits, and the one that hurts the most is the lack of health insurance.
If you work from home or work for yourself, do you have private health insurance? When looking for health insurance, what are some of the things you look for? I know when I was looking at insurance, I looked for a few specific things. First, I wanted a PPO over an HMO. I liked being able to choose the doctor or hospital that I wanted to go, rather than going to one main doctor to get a referral to the doctor or hospital I wanted. Second, I wanted to know what the yearly deductible for the plan was. How much did I have to pay out of pocket before medical expenses were covered. Third, I wanted to know how much the copay was going to be when we did have to visit the doctor or emergency room. Fourth, I wanted to know if prescriptions were covered and how much my copay would be. Fifth and finally, I wanted to know what other services were included with our insurance.
