“Oh Christmas Tree, Oh Christmas Tree…How lovely are your branches….”  Are you looking for the perfect Christmas tree and excellent customer service to assist you in the process?  If so, you’ll want to head to your local Orchard Supply Hardware.  This past week, we headed to our local Orchard Supply Hardware in search of the perfect Christmas tree for our home…..and we found it!  I love the new layout of the store and the staff was extremely helpful and knowledgeable!

We were helped by the Assistant Store Manager, Jerod Duggan and Holiday Display Director, Jen.  At Orchard Hardware Supply, you’ll find both artificial and live trees.  There are over a dozen different artificial trees, ranging in size from 4 feet to 9 feet and representing a different kind of tree you can find in the wild.  The artificial trees are easy to store and set up, with the branches folding up for storage and then fluffing out for decoration.

You’ll also find  3 different types of décor – Classic, Woodland, and Gold & Silver, so you can decorate your home in whatever theme you like the best.  There are a variety of holiday items to choose from, including ornaments, wreaths, gift wrap, advent calendars, lights and more.  I also learned about a pretty cool product for you artificial trees – scent sticks.  These handy scent sticks help give your artificial tree that real “Christmas tree” smell.

After exploring the decor items and artificial trees, it was time to head outside to pick our live tree.  Orchard Supply Hardware had a tree farm set up outside, with three different varieties of live trees.  Orchard receives one to two deliveries of fresh cut trees a week from Oregon.  There are three types – Douglas Fir, Noble Fir and Grand Fir.  The Grand and Noble Firs are similar, both having short needles and a very long life, as well as heavier branches for holding a variety of ornaments.  The main difference of the two is that the Grand Fir has a silver needle on the bottom, making it very attractive.  The Douglas Fir is the more picturesque, triangle-shaped tree.  It has longer needles and thinner branches and the ideal decor items include popcorn strings, tinsel and lights.

We chose a 9 foot Douglas Fir for our home and it is a beautiful tree!  Trees range from 5 feet to 9 feet – costing $19.99 to $75.00 (dependent upon the variety and height).  One of the big questions I had was how to make the tree last the longest.  Jerod told us that before taking the tree off the lot, they would give it a fresh cut and then wrap it in a net, making it easy to transport.  We were instructed to get the tree into water within an hour so the sap from the tree wouldn’t build up and block the water from feeding the trunk.  We were also given free tree preservative, which you mix with a couple of gallons of water to help feed the tree and sustain the tree life.

Head to Orchard Supply Hardware today to pick out your perfect Christmas tree!!

Artificial because I have young sons who would sadly probably destroy a real tree in 3 minutes

  2. Bo says:

Nothing beats a real tree for me! I love how the whole room smells fresh and pine-y!

  3. amber says:

I love getting live trees for the smell!

  5. DeLayne Oliva says:

I am totally on the fence about the whole live vs. artificial tree dilemma this year. I think either one would be great once we make it our own. …

  6. Dena S. says:

Tell me in a comment what kind of tree you would get (artificial or live) and why. Artificial since I’m allergic to real trees, I like to use red and gold decorations.

  7. Daraya says:

I would get a live tree – I love how they smell! 🙂

  8. debbie says:

I would get a live tree

  9. I am all for real trees, but I love my lights on all the time. For that reason, I don’t want to risk a fire so I would go with a artificial tree.

  10. I commented on the Norelco beard trimmer.

  11. I watched the utube video and Orchard Hardware seems the most knowledgeable place for Christmas decorations. I wasn’t aware of the scented sticks that you could put in an artificial tree; I am going to get some to try out.

  12. Monique Rizzo says:

    Artificial! So much less cleanup.
    Thanks for the chance.

Even though I love the smell of real trees, I prefer artificial because they are neater, safer and last from year to year.

  19. Tracy Allen says:

I would get artificial for the most artificial reason of all – symmetry . Real trees are never balanced and also they are sticky. Sounds so shallow, but that’s how I feel.

  20. Terry Madden says:

    A real tree

  21. Beth Palacios says:

We always get a real tree for Christmas. I love the smell, look, and feel better then artificial.

  22. Missy L says:

We’ve had our artificial tree for ten years now. We like being able to set it up right after Thanksgiving and we also have two dogs who do better with this type of tree!
