Come on Blog Brain…..Work!

As a busy mama to 3 boys, as well as a full-time student, my blog has received less attention than it’s accustomed to receiving.  The time I have to spend on it has decreased from what it used to be as I try to put my life back together.  It’s not intentional, but sometimes, I find myself sitting down with my laptop, fingers in the typing position on the keyboard, and I can feel my eyes glaze over as the whiteness from the screen casts this calming effect on my body.  Rewind to an episode of Fringe, where people are working or playing on their computers and they unknowingly find themselves hypnotized by their computer screens.  As you watch, you can see the whiteness reach out as a hand and…..the next thing you know the person is no longer active in this life (aka dead).  Immediately, I sit up to an attentive position, but not even a minute later, I find myself in the relaxed state again.  There are times where I think my brain cells have called it quits after about 9:00 p.m.

But wait a minute!  That’s prime blogging time!  Hello!!!  The boys are in bed and quiet.  I’m nice and comfy in my jammies.  The television is on in the background and all I have is time to crank out those blog posts like I used to be able to do.  Now….this might be easier said than done if I weren’t also enrolled in 13 units, making me a full-time student again.

Let me tell you, being a full-time student when you’re 18 years old is MUCH different than being a full-time student as a 31 year old mother of 3.  Not to mention the fact that I am busy as Team Mom for Basketball, Den Leader for Cub Scouts, going through a divorce, and dealing with custody issues.  Anyways…back to the school thing.  I don’t remember being as tired after speed-walking to my class from the one parking spot I was able to find that was located all the way in the front of the school.  Not to mention trying to stay awake to read all of my text materials.  It’s not that the material is boring either….it’s actually really interesting.  It’s just I am used to going to bed around 11:00 to midnight after working on my blog or watching my favorite television show, not reading.  Man, I am really sounding old now.

However, I do have to say that one advantage to going back to school when you aren’t fresh out of high school is that (1) I don’t want to pass….I want an A…. and (2) I have much more real life experience now than I did 13 years ago.  Oh and get this, you can check out your class syllabus, get your weekly homework, and more all through the school’s website.  Crazy, huh?  Oh and it’s no longer called “ADDING” a class.  It’s called “CRASHING” a class.  What in the world?  One of my instructors, who is probably in her 50’s, said that “Crashing” was the term they used when she went to college.  I wanna know who started that term up again?  LOL

So, that being said, I just realized that I have actually sat down and successfully typed a somewhat interesting, and very personal, blog post.  Thank God!  My blog brain still works!!!  Ha ha!

  1. Your brain totally still works!! That was a nice, long post…see? You’ve still got it! I honestly don’t know how you do it though. I don’t go to school and my children are older, and I still struggle with posts sometimes!

I have to say that women like you are amazing. Being able to go back to school on top of keeping a happy home and running a blog is A LOT of work. So often I feel like I am barely getting through the day with only two girls and keeping up with house and hubby. My Teaching license has now expired and the thought of going back to school is so overwhelming. Some days I think it would be fun to go back and others days I am glad that I don’t have to worry and stress about studying, tests, and papers. I’m torn.
I applaud you for all your hard work. Don’t feel bad if your miss and hit in the blog world. We understand. But be sure to let us know how the studies go now and then.

Thanks Jen! You’re awesome and a busy mama as well! I’m so glad we’re blogging friends girl! @Nichole I’m so glad to hear you say that (as I’m sure other mamas are as well). As moms, we take on this expectation to be perfect and be the “super mom” and do everything for everyone with perfection. One of the things I love about blogging and reading other mom’s blogs, as well as getting to know my readers, is the reality of motherhood. I’m sure you’re a great mama! Thank you so much for following along on The Mommy-Files! 🙂 @Karen….One thing I can say is …. thank God for my parents! LOL 🙂 Hope you all have a great Sunday!

This tottally gave me motivatin to really look into going back to school. I have my associates and need to finish my bachelors, but after becoming a mom I kind of put it on hold. I have agreat job which honestly I don’t need a degree but could benefit from it. Possibly my pay could go up. although if I think about i really could achieve alot more if I just knew how to do somethings that I could really learn in school especially taking some international bussiness courses. We shall see what happenes this summer, my goal is to take at least one course this summer.

I finished the last half of my degree working full-time and two classes a semester. It really wasn’t long before I was finished–not that it was easy, but a little extra effort pays off over the long term.

You sure have a lot going on. But showing your kids how important an education is to you is a wonderful lesson! Good Luck!!!

Wow — I feel like I just read some of my own writing — add 11 yrs and subract a kid (I count my husband as one). I think you have to be okay with those moments of phasing out in front of the computer screen. You are doing so much and you are only human. I applaud you for not just pushing through but caring about your education. Call me a nerd or whatever you want, but that’s how I see my current educational pursuits (trying to get a Masters in Legal Studies at 42 with a 5 yr old in tow). We may not be as spry as 21 yr olds, but we have perspective — it counts for so much. Good luck!
