SpongeBob SquarePants Birthday Party & Giveaway

Brian turned 7 in November and really wanted a SpongeBob SquarePants birthday party.  I was excited to work with Wilton and make him a SpongeBob SquarePants character cake!  I started decorating it in the evening and then put the boys to the bed.  They were super excited when they woke up in the morning and found the decorated SpongeBob SquarePants Cake on the kitchen counter!  A big thanks to Wilton for making this possible!

I used the SpongeBob SquarePants Cake Pan to bake the cake.  It was super easy!  First, you need to prepare the cake pan by spraying the inside with Wilton Bake Easy Spray or a spray that has flour in it.  Prepare a box of cake mix and pour into the pan.  Bake at 350 degrees Fahrenheit until the cake is done.  Mine was baked pretty close to the time of the 9×11 pan.  My tip would be to bake it for the least amount of time and continue to check it until the toothpick comes out clean.  When the cake is done, remove it from the oven and let it cool.  Once cool, gently remove the cake by tapping on the bottom of the pan and holding your hand out so you can catch the cake when it falls out.

For the icing, you can definitely make it by hand, but I prefer to use the tub of White Decorator Icing.  I love it!  All I have to do is scoop it into a bowl and add the icing colors to it.  For the icing colors, I used the Wilton SpongeBob SquarePants Icing Color Set.  I used a knife to dip into the colorant containers and then added to the icing.  The icings came out bright and brilliant!  In each Disposable Decorating Bag, I placed a Coupler and colored icing.  To decorate the cake, I used Decorating Tip #s 3, 16, and 21.

Since I made and decorated the SpongeBob SquarePants Cake, I decided to refrain from making cupcakes.  However, I did use the SpongeBob SquarePants Cupcake Stand to hold the SpongeBob SquarePants Baking Cups.  I filled the Baking Cups with Goldfish Crackers and the kids loved them!  The Cupcake Stand served as a cute decoration and added color to the food table!  You can also use the stand to hold small sandwiches or other appetizers.

At the party, we had a piñata and the kids were excited to fill their SpongeBob SquarePants Treat Bags with the candy that eventually came out of the piñata!  You can use the bags as goody bags filled with candy to give to kids as they go home or to fill with goodies that come out of the piñata.  They add fun and color to any SpongeBob SquarePants party!

On Brian’s actual birthday, I made him a round cake and decorated it.  It was a 2-layer 9-inch Devil’s Food cake with Dark Chocolate frosting.  I used Tip 21 to create a Shell border around the bottom of the cake and on the rim of the cake.  On the sides of the cake, I added SpongeBob SquarePants Icing Decorations.  They definitely added some character and color to the cake!  I wrote “Happy Birthday” with Blue Sparkle Gel.  I love the Sparkle Gel!  It makes it SO EASY to write on cakes!!!  I added some Shimmer Dust and yellow Jimmies Sprinkles to the top of the cake.
