Thanks to Team Mom, we received samples from Backyard Safari Outfitters to review for The Mommy-Files.  The boys had a blast suiting up and exploring the backyard with the Cargo Vest, Mega View Periscope, and Bug Vacuum we received.  The Cargo Vest ($19.99), Mega View Periscope ($24.99), and Bug Vacuum ($19.99) can be purchased online or in stores, including Toys “R” Us, Wal-Mart, Barnes and Noble, Amazon.com, and Target.

Backyard Safari Outfitters equips young explorers with all the essential field gear they could possibly need for scoping out local “wildlife,” from insects in the grass to birds in the sky to frogs in a pond — and more!  Kids can choose from a broad array of fun gear and tools, including the practical and very snappy looking Cargo Vest, as well as the cool Bug Vacuum, and Mega View Periscope – among dozens of other choices.

To heighten that adventure and peak kids’ interest in science, each Backyard Safari Outfitters kit includes a detailed Pop-Up Field Guide small enough to fit neatly into any pocket.  This handy guide is full of rich illustrations and information for every subject related to outdoor and nature exploration, such as Field Communication, the Solar System, Butterflies, Fossils, and Beetles.

Backyard Safari Outfitters encourages children to get active, play outside and explore nature – “nature play” is a whole new category of fun for future outdoor enthusiasts.

The Cargo Vest is a must-have for every Backyard Safari kid and it’s your most essential piece of field gear.  The Cargo Vest is tough enough for all of your outdoor adventures.  Plenty of cargo pockets means lots of space to load up all your gear for the great outdoors.  Six D-Rings and two shoulder epaulets let you clip and hang more essential gear.  A large pocket stores your trusty binocs and a clear-view chest pocket is the perfect place for your Pop-Up Field Guides.

The Mega View Periscope allows stealth viewing over boulders, high bushes, backyard fences, and around corners.  Three sturdy, light-weight sections telescope for a reach of over four feet high to let you see all those out-of-reach views.  The exclusive water feature is sure to be a splash hit!  Flip the Mega View Periscope upside down and a full 16 inches is submersible for under-water viewing – on docks, poolside, lakes, or beaches.  You will get a real fish eye view…but without all the water in your ears.

The Bug Vacuum was my boys favorite of the three items!  Sneak up on bugs and suck ’em up!  There are thousands of crawling, flying, buzzing bugs in your backyard – catch them LIVE with your Bug Vac!  Become the ultimate bug wrangler with this creepy-crawly device.  You can look at bugs up-close with the built-in magnifying glass.  The extra nose cone will come in handy for those really big bugs.  The CAPTURE CORE attaches to the Backyard Safari Bug Habitat (sold separately) for easy transfer of your insects.

MY THOUGHTS

My boys loved the Backyard Safari Outfitters products!  My 6 year old had a blast wearing the vest around the house and leading his brothers around the backyard with the Mega View Periscope and Bug Vacuum!  The only thing I would change is the size of the Mega View Periscope.  It’s pretty bulky and somewhat hard to store, but the boys still love to play with it!  Thanks to Team Mom and Summit Toy for this fun toy review!

I received samples from Summit Toy as part of a campaign through Team to facilitate this review.  All opinions expressed in this post are 100% mine.

  1. This looks like so much fun for kids. I love the photo of Brian and his granddad. I bet they play with it all the time looking at bugs and fish.
This is another item that I think my grandson would love for Christmas. 🙂
