“Together We Can” Martha Stewart Gift Basket Giveaway
I was recently told about a great new recycling initiative called “Together We Can,” which was started by Purina. If you have pets or know of someone who has pets, this is a program definitely worth checking out. My parents have 2 cats and go through many cans of cat food in a week’s time. After emptying the contents into the cat dishes, it is very easy to just toss the can in the trash. However, it’s more environmentally beneficial to recycle the cans. So, Purina is encouraging the “Together We Can Recycle” initiative, which raises awareness about recycling used aluminum pet food containers, specifically Friskies and Fancy Feast. Purina has teamed up with Keep America Beautiful and are asking pet owners to take a pledge to recycle used pet food cans. Recycling a 5.5oz. aluminum can saves enough energy to power a 30-inch TV (95w) for over 2 hours. WOW!

On earth day we were part of a group that picked up trash along the river banks and beaches.
We’re the loony grandparents because we go for a modified ‘no impact’ day each year for earth day. We don’t use electricity (except for the refrigerator)- the grandkids think it’s funny. We start a fire and cook our food and we walk everywhere. I understand to go ‘no impact’ it involves giving up toilet paper. Well, that’s not going to happen. Kill a tree already.

We’ve recycled for years, try to always be sparing with water, reuse plastic and paper bags. But this year we’ve taken it up several notches by installing solar panels on our roof. We feel like our little family can make a difference.

What I did for the Earth today was to remember to put all of the reusable shopping bags in the car so when I go grocery shopping this afternoon I can use them instead of plastic bags!

I checked out the site…and for earth day I had a serious talk with both of my kids about what we will be doing for the earth and that it must be done! We also watched some shows about what us disgusting humans are doing to the earth 🙁 Seriously already, can people put some effort into this?

Earthday was for making my rain barrell set up with recycled guttering and barrell. And making a compost turner out of 55 gal. barrell, on a stand, with caster wheels mounted for easy rolling. All wood materials were recycled. To me, recycling is like a craft ready to be assymbled.
