Spring Into Action With Aller-Ease + Giveaway!!
When I think about the first day of Spring, I think of planting, cleaning, organizing, and….sneezing. Yep, sniffling, sneezing, eyes that water and itch….all of these are symptoms of allergies. Allergies can leave you feeling lightheaded, tired, and overall yucky!
In my house growing up, my mom would have a “Spring Cleaning” (aka deep cleaning), once a year – usually during the Spring time. This would require moving furniture, pictures, knick-knacks, and more to get everything cleaned. While cleaning, the goal was to get the house dust free and looking nice. I don’t think anyone considered cleaning at the microscopic level.
Until recently, I had no idea that dust mites, dust mite feces, mold, spores, and pet dander collected in unprotected pillows and mattresses were triggers for allergy symptoms. This is where Aller-Ease steps in.
Aller-Ease makes the number-one selling brand of allergen protective bedding products and has teamed up with The Motherhood to ask a group of clean-thinking bloggers to Spring into Action. Bloggers will look to their past to share tried and true spring cleaning family traditions and take stock of new innovations in cleaning they simply can’t live without.
Here is a list of the bloggers participating:
Rockin’ Mama
Go Graham Go
The Divine Miss Mommy
A Family Completed
Plus Size Mommy
Something Snappy
Nickles-n-Dimes
Jolly Mom
My Four Monkeys
Pretty Pink Momma
The Mommy-Files
And Twins Make 5!
Tammy’s Two Cents
Robyn’s World
Icefairy’s Treasure Chest
Check back to see what they say and share your own “tried and true” spring cleaning tips passed down to you, or a must-have cleaning innovation. Share your tips and you’ll be eligible to win an Aller-Ease gift. For more ways to win Aller-Ease products visit www.aller-ease.com and enter their Spring into Action contest running through April 30. If you miss the contest, you can browse and purchase products on the Web site.
Did You Know…Mattresses can double in weight every 10 years due to microscopic allergens that accumulate inside. Zoom in under the covers to look at what’s lurking in your pillow and mattress while you sleep:
Nearly all allergists (98%) recommend protective bedding as the number-one remedy for patients suffering from indoor allergy symptoms[1]. To learn more allergy facts visit: http://www.aller-ease.com/pdfs/mar8_10.pdf
MY THOUGHTS
Thanks to Aller-Ease, I had the opportunity to review some fabulous products, including pillow covers, a pillow, and a mattress cover. I like that the pillow covers and mattress cover don’t just cover the pillows and mattress. They zip around the pillows and mattress, creating an allergen filtration system between you and the bedding while you are sleeping, thus reducing allergy and asthma triggers. I will definitely be stocking up on more Aller-Ease products in the future!

I like to do one room a day top to bottom.
I use vinegar and water to clean my windows. It works well and is environmentally friendly.
When Spring comes I go through the house, if I see anything in a pile that hasn’t been used throughout the previous year, I give it away or throw it out. Clutter collects dust.

I keep moist wipes in the kitchen and bathroom. A quick wipe down and things look great. Once a week I do a little more intense cleaning.
Go through everyone’s clothing and make piles to keep, trash (only things that can not be reused for cleaning or too worn for donation), donate. Put away the keep clothes. Throw away your trash clothes. Pack up the clothes to donate right away and put in car, so you never have an excuse later on not to stop at a donation center!

My spring cleaning tip is to not just clean but get rid of the clutter. If you have not used it in the past few months, it goes. Makes cleaning the rest of the year so much easier.

hardest thing is motivation to clean out the closets. We make goals for spring cleaning out one closet per week for about a month.

Spring cleaning tip: go through my kids clothes for items that are outgrown and make a donation bag and I also go through my own clothes to decide what to give away as well. It works well in the spring with the change of seasons.

I like to take my houseplants outside in the spring and hose them down – it’s good for the plants and it eliminates the dust that gathers on the leaves.
GETTING OUT OF THE WAY WHEN MY WIFE DOES THE SPRING CLEANING…LOL
Make a to-do list before starting anything because just thinking about cleaning the entire house is very daunting. Sit down, remain calm, and write out what you want to accomplish. What in the house makes you stressed out or feel uncomfortable to look at? Is it the overstuffed closet? The dirty windows? The messy garage? After you decide which rooms you want to concentrate on over the next month (yes, give yourself a lot of time so that you’re not completely exhausted after each task), decide what you want to do with the items. Donate to charity? Throw away? Sell on Ebay? The best part after meeting your goal is that you’ll have a ton more room to clean, redecorate, and reorganize for the summer months when you don’t want a ton of old stuff from years before weighing down on you.
I keep a container of Clorox wipes in every room of the house. Makes for easy clean up when needed.
Keep it simple… One room at a time and make it fun… Most important DO NOT STRESS about getting it done.
I wash my windows with vinegar and water with one drop of dish soap. I also recycle my newspapers by using them to dry the windows. They sparkle!!!
My best spring cleaning tip: When we switch out the flannel sheets and put on cotton sheet we also clean the bed. We use our vacuum cleaner and go under the bed, around the bed and on the mattress itself. Time to get rid of skin cells, dust and other items that may be on the bed since the last time it was done.

I make a list of what needs to be done. Then I divide it up and assign certain jobs to the kids. We mark things off as they are done. We try to only spend an hour each day working on the list so that we don’t get burned out.

Clean your mirrors with vinegar and newspaper – streak free and gets them really clear!
My favorite spring cleaning tip is to tag team with your spouse! For example, my husband hates to dust and I don’t like it any better; nevertheless, it’s something that needs to be done. So working together is like reducing the project in half for both of us. And don’t get me started on yardwork! 😉
My tip is to do it with fun music. What ever kind makes you want to shake your bootie will energize you and keep you going. Thanks for the contest.

Dust every week so it doesn’t take as long!
I try to do a little each day, so I don’t get overwhelmed later.
I try to finish at least one task a day.
a great way to disinfect without the smell is to use either industrial strength or regular 3% hydrogen peroxide.

To wash my blinds, I take them down and lay them on my driveway, spray them with cleaner, wait a few minutes then spray them off with the hose. They come out clean with little to no effort, I dry them over the porch railing before returning them to the window.

My best spring cleaning tip is just getting started! That (to me) is the hardest part. I generally pick a smallish thing that’s been bugging me and get that done. That gives me more motivation to move on and complete other things…
My best spring cleaning tip is using vinegar to clean the windows. Works better than windex, and cheaper.

cleaning tip: I learned this off of a baby site; I put the kid’s stuffed toys in the top shelf of the dishwasher and run it. They say it’s better for them then the washer that spins them around and around. It’s great for baby toys and cloth books too!
I’m a big list maker so I make a list of all the chores I need to do and pick a few to do each day, so that way I don’t feel so overwhelmed. I’m another who uses vinegar often in my cleaning. And I LOVE the Mr. Clean magic eraser!! Thanks so much!

I do remember the Spring cleaning of old. So much so that I will NOT have doillies in my home . I also felt the same about blinds but the new blinds are so much easier to clean then before. One reader stated that getting started is important and I agree. You can be overwhelmed with the whole project in mind. But start with 1 closet , 1 ceilling and off you go.
My tip is to make my husband do it and I make sure it gets done

for a month set a goal to clean out 1 closet or each weekend. As your chucking stuff, have a tote ready for donate, one for toss, and 1 for garage sale. one a weekend keeps it from getting overwhelming and you will have a sense of accomplishment when you open a closet and can actually find something!
Decluttering first will help speed up cleaning. I also love to open the windows and let the fresh air in – it puts me in the mood of getting the old dust and pet fur out of the house.

I use vinagar and water in a spray bottle and newspaper to clean windows.
I use White Vinegar a lot of ways; straight to cut mineral build up, 50/50 with Dawn to clean bathtubs and cut build up “gunk” on kitchen cupboards, and 50/50 with water to clean up dog “accidents”.
To clean wood floors put hot water and up to six tea bags in a bucket. Make it strong. The tannic acid in tea is really, really good for wood floors.
I always clean out my closets & bring what I do not need to Goodwill. I spray the inside & outside of my house for bugs & open all the windows for a week letting fresh air in. Clean, dust, vaccum………..& more.
