Earlier this week, I had the opportunity to participate in a Conference Call with Jennie Garth (star of “Beverly Hills 90210”).  This is my second chance to highlight her participation in a community activity.  The first event was with Trident and Smiles Across America, where she promoted healthy teeth and oral hygiene for kids.  This second event was for her new tv show called “Garden Party,” which promotes gardening and vegetables for kids and their families.

The new web series, “Garden Party,” is hosted by Jennie Garth and aired on Tuesday, January 19th on iVillage.  The digital lifestyle series, from NBC Universal Digital Studio and the makers of Hidden Valley Ranch dressing, helps teach families how to incorporate vegetables into their diets.  Jennie said, “I saw this series as an opportunity to help inspire, educate, and motivate families like mine.  I found out that incorporating vegetables into your families’ life is not only healthy but can be fun too.”

Each month, a new vegetable is featured on Garden Party.  As the host, Jennie will meet with farmers, chefs, moms and kids to highlight new and fun ways to get families to love veggies.  Ideas range from planting veggies at home to visiting a kid’s cooking school to touring a family farm.  Jennie shares her own experience and tips with rich interactive elements including a “Cook and Tell” cookbook, a “What’s For Dinner” meal planner and an opportunity for moms to tell their veggie stories.

“We know how important it is to Moms that their children enjoy balanced meals and that vegetables play a big role in that balance,” said Priscilla Tuan, Marketing Manager for the Hidden Valley® brand.  “We are excited about the opportunity to help families learn more about creating a lifelong love of veggies.”

I was really excited to have the opportunity to hear Jennie Garth in “real life” on the conference call.  Jennie Garth suggested a few really great tips on the Conference Call.  One that I found very helpful was to puree vegetables and add them to your child’s favorite dishes.  She talked about pureeing spinach and adding it to dishes and her kids didn’t even notice.  Another tip she had was to let your kids dip in cheese or ranch dressing.  I personally love to dip my veggies in Ranch Dressing, so I know that this DOES work!  LOL  Here is a tip from “Garden Party” on how to get your kids to eat Broccoli!

We as parents strongly influence our children.  So, just like them, we should eat our vegetables as well!  We aim to have a vegetable at dinner each night.  We also have started an annual tradition of planting a family garden in our backyard!  Not only do the vegetables taste super yummy, my kids get to grow the vegetables themselves and it creates a bonding experience.

I received no compensation for writing this post.  All opinions expressed are my own!
