What Do You Want Out of Your Blog?

The other night, we attended my husband’s work Christmas party.  It was wonderful!  There was shrimp, salad, salmon, mashed potatoes, cheese, meat, crackers, a chocolate fountain…..hmmm….I wonder if I’m hungry?  LOL

Anyways, my husband talks up my blog to all of his coworkers.  From time to time, I’ve sent him with different products to put at his desk (i.e. digital picture frame, camcorder in his pocket, etc).  He hands out my business cards for me – which I won in a giveaway when I first started growing The Mommy-Files (yay!).

At the Christmas party, I was talking to one of the members of the marketing team….and it was so funny to hear him use the word “swag.”  I’ve heard of swag mentioned in conjunction with “BlogHer” or “Blogging Events,” but never in relation to a construction company.  I pitched a couple of ideas to him and out of it grew our conversation about The Mommy-Files.

He asked me what I did on my blog.  I told him that I talk about motherhood, family fun activities, and do product reviews and giveaways.  He then asked me what I wanted from my blog.  My response was, “Well, I don’t want to be famous or on the news or anything like that.  I like where it’s at and wouldn’t mind it growing a little more.”  I told him about the awesome opportunities I’ve had to attend a Smucker’s and General Mills event and that I would love to attend more.  Basically, I was really happy with my blog.  He then asked me, “So, if Oprah invited you on her show, you would turn her down?”  Hmmmm….I didn’t really give my answer enough thought I guess.

I thought about it for a second, took a drink of my soda, and responded emphatically, “Heck yeah I would talk to Oprah about my blog.”  LOL

So, all in all, if I ever had the opportunity to talk with Oprah, I would DEFINITELY do it and not even think twice about it!’

  1. Hehe. That post took a WHOLE different turn then where I thought it was going to go, but frankly, I agree! I sure as heck would talk to Oprah about my blog as well 🙂

  2. I would LOVE to turn my blog into a business but I am not a fan of doing reviews. Every pitch I have gotten I have turned down. I would like to get paid money for my writing. I think ti’s good enough. Eh. I want to be on Oprah too!

  3. Me too, without a doubt. I love Oprah. I stalked her at the State Fair of Texas this year and posted about it on my blog. It’s my dream to work for her.

P.S. Please tell me your package made it there today?

  4. Well you’d have to be crazy to pass on an opportunity like that, which I know your not. Now how do we get Oprah to put you on her show…..

  5. I don’t watch Oprah, but I would SO totally watch it if you were on! You are so much cooler than that Dooce lady who was on Dr. Phil… You are prettier, smarter, and a lot less full of yourself!! 🙂
I say we start a “Get Shannon on Oprah” campaign… Who’s with me???
