I Saw “Wicked” in Seattle!
In Book Club, we read the book “Wicked” – well, I read part of it anyways! A group of us decided to go and see the musical “Wicked” at the Paramount Theater in Downtown Seattle. It was a beautiful theater!!
From left to right: Jen, Amy, Athina, Khadija, me, Jill, Meron, and Sarah
The musical was awesome! Our seats were pretty high up, so I rented a pair of binoculars from the theater. I am so glad I did. With the binoculars, I was able to see some of the details of the costumes, plus I got to see how attractive Fierro was – yowzas!! Glinda (or Guh-linda) was beautiful and her dress was stunning. Elphaba was awesome – I was amazed at some of the notes she held during the musical.
Khadija and I taking a picture in the theater
Khadija, me, and Meron in the theater. This was taken before the usher told us we couldn’t take any pictures in the theater – woops! I knew we couldn’t during the performance, but I didn’t think about before. I think the flash fades the paint or something along those lines.
During Intermission, Khadija, Meron, and I ran down to the snack bar, where I purchased a $1.00 bag of Peanut M&Ms – I was so hungry! It was funny because by the time we got to the ordering point, one of the ushers with a walkie talkie started shouting “1 minute until showtime! 1 minute until showtime!” It was funny because he acted like he had some sort of power by holding the walkie talkie in the air and shouting those words. We hustled up 2 flights of stairs to our seats and made it in plenty of time. I’m pretty sure we had more than a minute until it started (or we were REALLY FAST)! LOL!
Jen and Athina testing out binoculars for the show!
“Wicked” was so good that it received a standing ovation. I even stood up at the very beginning of the curtain call – I just loved it! After the performance, I bought a mug (it’s tradition since I started with Les Miserables). So now I have 2 mugs from musicals I’ve been to (“Wicked” and “Les Miserables”). It was so much fun and I can’t wait to go to another musical!
I loved the book, it was so good!
My husband & I were supposed to go watch it in Los Angeles but never got around to it…I’m so jealous but glad you had a great time π
Sounds like you had a great time!! π
I really want to see this play. I tried reading the book awhile back but couldn’t get through it for some reason. My mom saw the play and then read the book. She absolutely loved the play but was unsure about the book. She said she was very surprised by how little they matched up. Did you like the book? Did you find the book and the play similar at all?
Glad you had a good time and great pictures!
Awww i would love to get to see that musical- have heard so much about it.
i saw it in cleveland last year and i was awe-struck! it was my first musical and was so magical to me. i never read the book, but i am obsessed with the wizard of oz so my in-laws took me for my birthday. i really wanted to go with husband when they return to cleveland this winter but i have a nursing infant who refuses to take a bottle. i hope they come back here next year!
I am so jealous!! When we went to Seattle we tried to go, but it was SOLD OUT!! Glad you had fine, and I will keep in mind the binoculars if I ever get to go.
Ooooh you lucky lady! That would have been so awesome π
I have yet to read the book, but I’m workin on it!
It sounds like you all had a great time-Good for you!!
So jealous. They sold out so quickly here.
I have a mug collection too! Two strong as well haha! I love the soundtrack to Wicked. Sounds like the show was great!
Looks like you all had a wonderful time. Bill and I used to belong to the Broadway club in Connecticut when we were both working and went to a show almost every month. W love them so much. We moved right before Wicked was coming to the theater, and I am so sorry we didn’t get to see it. We haven’t been able to join since moving to Florida, but hope to join next year when our finances settle down again…. We both really enjoy the theater, and it is a great date night.
Thanks for sharing your pictures with us… π
Saw the play about 2 years ago in NYC with my family and thought it was really very good. I read the book afterwards, but couldn’t get into it. Got my kids into theater when they were little even though one was a jock and the other a geek. To this day they really enjoy a good play. If you have an opportunity go to see Phantom of the Opera our all time favorite.
Can’t wait to see it!
