I love shopping at Kohl’s. I know that I can always find great prices on clothes for myself and my family. I had the opportunity to review the Cares for Kids Program sponsored through Kohl’s. It’s a great program!
Let’s take a pop quiz to start things out!

1. What is the world’s fastest animal?
2. What insect has ears on its knees?
3. How do you keep kids reading all summer long?
You can find answers to these questions within the pages of three books written by award-winning children’s author Steve Jenkins. Kohl’s is currently featuring (1) Actual Size, (2) Biggest, Strongest, Fastest, and (3) Caldecott-award-winning What Do You Do With a Tail Like This? These adorable books go along with coordinating plush toys for only $5.00 each – found in all Kohl’s stores, as well as online. These books and plush toys are part of the Kohl’s Cares for Kids Program. They are now available through September 26th.

One of the things I love about this program is that 100% of the net profit from sales of the Steve Jenkins books and plush toys benefits children’s health and education initiatives nationwide. Since the program started through Kohl’s in 2000, Kohl’s has turned $5.00 merchandise into more than $126 million – making a positive impact on the lives of children across the country.

Here are some great reasons to purchase the books and/or coordinating plush toys from the Kohl’s Cares for Kids Program:

· Great Gifts for Teachers – Instead of the typical “apple for the teacher,” why not give a gift they can share with their students again and again? Steve Jenkins books make great classroom gifts for teachers. Parents can feel good about giving these books because 100 percent of the net profits go to children’s health and education initiatives nationwide.

· Read it! See it! Learn it! – Get your budding scientists ready for a day of learning! Start the day by reading one of the Steve Jenkins books currently featured in the Kohl’s Cares for Kids® program. Then make the lessons come alive with a trip to you local zoo or aquarium. Learning together is a great way to beat the dog days of summer and get ready for school.

· Affordable Gifts that Give Back – Kohl’s Cares for Kids® books and plush offer an incredible value to families looking to stretch their budgets. At just $5 each, the books “Actual Size,” “Biggest, Strongest, Fastest” and “What Do You Do With a Tail Like This?” by award-winning author Steven Jenkins and their coordinating plush toys are affordable and educational toys you can feel good about buying, since 100 percent of the net profits go to children’s health and education initiatives.

· Teachable Moments at Home – Parents who home school their kids can use Steve Jenkins books, now featured in the Kohl’s Cares for Kids® program, to help spark an interest in science. After reading these books, parents can engage their children in activities such as going to the zoo or aquarium or even going on a bug hunt in the backyard to reinforce the fun facts they just read.

· Babysitters Club/Adventures in Babysitting – Baby sitters can build a “babysitter’s survival kit” with Steve Jenkins books and plush toys and buy themselves hours of quality entertainment for as little as $5! Plus they’ll feel good knowing that they don’t need spend a fortune to keep kids entertained.

In addition to the merchandise program, Kohl’s Cares for Kids features the Kohl’s Kids Who Care® Scholarship Program, which will recognize more than 2,000 young volunteers in 2009 with a total of nearly $350,000 planned in scholarships and prizes; the A-Team Program, which encourages associate volunteerism and provided more than $5.6 million in grants to youth-focused nonprofit organizations in 2008; and fundraising gift cards for schools and youth-serving organizations.
