Talk to Me Tuesday – Mommy Brain

I used to think it was kind of funny when I would say something completely random or do something that I would classify as having “mommy brain.” However, as of recent, I have found this to be more “annoying” than funny.

I am not a tech-savvy person (luckily I married someone who is). I went to a blogger conference yesterday. 3 of the girls were clicking away on these handheld devices. The girl sitting next to me made a comment saying she really wanted one of those. I then proceeded to ask (in front of everyone) what they were. Lo and behold – they were Iphones. One of the other moms jokingly said I need to get away from the play area. OK – embarassing! LOL

Today, I was on a conference call and went out to the backyard to talk on the phone (without loud child noises in the background) – my place of refuge! When I came back in, I could not for the life of me get my wireless mouse to work. My 1 year old has a BAD HABIT of running off with the mouse. However, I found it in the possession of my 5 year old as he was pushing the green reset button on it. I tried using it and NOTHING would happen. I kind of freaked out because I really don’t have a clue as to how navigate on my computer without the mouse.

I proceeded to call Logitech to ask them how to fix it. The guy asked for my information and then said, “Well, you bought it in 2005 so it’s no longer under warranty. Let me see if I can help you fix it.” I then proceeded to spend 30 minutes searching for and listening to the representative describe to me “a box” that I needed to find to reset the mouse. He said that there has to be something hooked up to the computer so the mouse could work. My husband is the computer guy and I couldn’t get ahold of him, so I continued to search. Our computer is in a hutch which has things other than computer items in it – so I had to pull those out searching for it. I also had to pull out the bookcase, which is on the side of the hutch, after unloading some of the books so that I could get to the back of the hutch. I then took a flashlight and pulled on each cord trying to figure out what the cord was attached to.

After 30 minutes of searching and getting a little peeved with the customer service rep (poor guy), I finally found it. It wasn’t on the back of the computer, it wasn’t behind the hutch, it wasn’t under the hutch, and it wasn’t on the lower part of the hutch behind the printer paper and other cables. NO! It was right behind my computer monitor (easily accessible). And it wasn’t a “box” either – it was an item that looked like half of a computer mouse.

You can believe me – I will never forget where the other end of that mouse is again!

Anyways, I feel much better now venting to you and will probably go and cry for a few minutes just so I feel better! Happy Tuesday everyone!
