As a returning college student, I understand the value of learning.  I learn from my classes, as well as from my experiences in every day life.  As a mother, it is important that my children learn.  How do I inspire my children to learn?  First, make learning exciting!  Share your enthusiasm with your child about the subject he is learning.  Second, acknowledge once your child “gets it.”  This can be exciting to know that he grasps the concept he is trying to learn.  Third, help your child learn, don’t do it for him.  Often times, it’s easy for us as parents to sit with our children while working on homework and do it for them, even though we see it as showing them how to do it.  Encourage your child to figure out what he is trying to learn on his own.  When he gets stuck on a concept, help him to think about finding the answer rather than just giving up and relying on you to give him the answer.  Fourth, show by example that you are never too old to learn.  In my case, my boys see that even though I am an adult and I have children, I am still going to school to further my education so I can have a career that will support my family.  Of all of these, example is the most powerful way to inspire your child to learn!
