Energizer and VH1 Save the Music + Giveaway

Can you believe it’s already August and that school is just around the corner?  I can’t believe it’s already here!  To help get the school year started off on a positive note, Energizer is partnering with the VH1 Save The Music Foundation to help restore instrumental music education in America’s public schools.  Helping to kick off the campaign is  Grammy®-nominated platinum-recording artist and VH1 Save The Music Foundation Ambassador Jordin Sparks.  There are several ways for people to get involved.

Like the Energizer Bunny on Facebook and Help Increase Energizer’s Support to the VH1 Save The Music Foundation

Now through August 12, people can help support the VH1 Save The Music Foundation simply by clicking “LIKE” on the Energizer Bunny® Facebook page and becoming a fan of the unstoppable icon. For each new “LIKE” through August 12, Energizer will donate $1 to help restore instrumental music education through the VH1 Save The Music Foundation.

Help Energizer Pick a Grant Recipient

Energizer is making eight grants to public schools around the country, and fans of the Energizer Bunny® Facebook page will help direct one of these grants by voting for a city where an instrumental grant will be made. Cities vying for the now that’s positivenergy™ grant from Energizer and the VH1 Save The Music  Foundation include Philadelphia, Birmingham, Minneapolis, New Haven and Weirton, W.V. Energizer is supporting these grants with a $250,000 overall donation to the VH1 Save The Music Foundation.

“At Energizer, we believe everyone has the opportunity to make a positive impact, so we’re excited to offer our Facebook fans – both old and new – an easy avenue to make a difference through the VH1 Save The Music Foundation,” said Jim Olsen, Vice President of Marketing forEnergizer North America. “Our hope is that people will make their mark by voting or ‘liking’ the Energizer Bunny®, and then continue to learn about other ways to raise awareness of the VH1 Save The Music Foundation mission by visiting www.nowthatspositivenergy.com.”

Sparks’ “pop-up” performance kicked off the series of grants Energizer and the VH1 Save The Music Foundation will make to schools around the country in need of musical instruments. Together with the Foundation, this campaign brings awareness to the importance of music as part of a child’s complete education, gives the gift of music to schools across the country and shows people a number of ways to further awareness and give back to their own communities.

The partnership between Energizer and the VH1 Save The Music Foundation is the second major initiative of the new Energizer now that’s positivenergy™ campaign. Through commitments with organizations that help make the world a better place, Energizer wants to empower people to bring some positivity to their own communities and remind everyone that we all have the power to make a positive impact.

“We are extremely grateful to Energizer for helping us spread our message through this innovative campaign,” said Paul Cothran, Executive Director of the VH1 Save The Music Foundation. “By using the power of social media and involving the fans directly, they are allowing us to move towards our goal of ensuring that no child be deprived access to a complete education that includes music.”

About Jordin Sparks

In 2007, 19 Recordings/Jive records artist Jordin Sparks broke onto the music scene by winning over America and became, at that time, the youngest-ever winner of American Idol®. In the following three years, Jordin has released two albums with her self-titled debut going platinum, and just released a new single this summer, I AM WOMAN.     I played the flute all throughout my school years and loved it! It actually helped with other areas academically, kept me involved and focused in school and has stayed with me for many years since then. I strongly believe it should still be a major aspect of schooling.

    Fine arts – like music, drama, visual arts – give kids an outlet for their feelings and a chance to express themselves that regular academics don’t provide. For some kids the music education they get in schools is the only exposure to other types of music besides what they hear on the radio.

    Music helps connect the creative and analytical sides of the brain – causing them to work together in a way that produces something beautiful. Our society needs individuals who can do this both in the area of music and in problem solving!

    My son has been in band for 7 years (just starting his 8th in college this week) and I’m firmly convinced that the skills he learned in those classes are what helped him do so well in all his others. Kids need it!

    I believe that music should stay in schools because it is enjoyable to the students. Music is an outlet of expression for the children. I feel that music is something the children look forward to and I don’t believe it should be taken away from them. ♪ Save The Music ♫

    Music, like any art, should most DEFINITELY stay in school because it allows kids a way of expression that math, science, or English sometimes can’t-It’s something everyone relates to, and is proven through countless studies and research projects to help kids learn and grow!

    my daughters grandmother is a music teacher and seeing her with my daughter is amazing.. my daughter loves playing music with her it really allows her to just be free, creative, and express herself in a way she cant with anything else.

    Music in school is exercise for the brain. It fosters creativity and provides a very different kind of focus for a child’s brain during the school day. Marching band during football and parade season gets the kids outside and moving, too!

    Band was always the best part of my school day as a kid. That’s where I made most of my best friends, too. We were all together once a day in the same class for YEARS. We took trips together, practiced after school together, and had a ball the whole time.

    Billy Joel once said, “I think music in itself is healing. It’s an explosive expression of humanity. It’s something we are all touched by. No matter what culture we’re from, everyone loves music.” This quote still remains true today, because music is not just a localized or national interest, but a global phenomenon. Each culture has its own type of music, which expresses the feelings and emotions of the general population in that society. Because of this, music can share not only sounds, but actual emotions and feelings. It is so important for schools to keep music as the status quo for students because it allows them to creatively express themselves in ways they otherwise could not. When children internalize their feelings and emotions, instead of expressing them physically, negative consequences could prevail. The student could become stressed, angry, depressed, anxious, or even suicidal if the circumstances are that dire. Every child has some sort of problem, whether at the home, in school itself, or just self-esteem issues. Music is the outlet for these children to express themselves freely without harming themselves or others. I appreciate the opportunity to express my thoughts on this subject.

    Music is a source of creativity, a voice of expression, a daily therapeutic annotation of life stimulating growth for the children of today. Music brings us together and is a way of life! It is essential for proper child development, and could potentially align them towards a more culturally relevant and growing appreciation for the art type of mindset!

    Music was so important for me when I was in grade school. It was always a class that was my favorite where I could express myself. It is also my daughters favorite class and I like that she can be creative with her talents.
