Edible Back to School Craft with Voortman Wafers
Today, on Redhead Mom, we are sharing about our Edible Back to School Craft
as part of a partnered post with Voortman Bakery.
It’s hard to believe that the kids are already back in school…but it’s not like a typical school year. Our kids here on the California Central Coast are doing school virtually. That means they are doing their schooling through computers from home. Being a mom and substitute teacher, it’s unlike anything I’ve ever experienced before. While our kids are currently experiencing a whole new world of schooling, my husband and I thought it would be fun to create an Edible Back to School Craft using Voortman Wafers. Our kids love the Voortman Wafers, especially the Chocolate and Vanilla flavors they sent to us to use in our craft. Not only is this a creative and fun craft, but you can eat it when you’re done!
What You Need
- Voortman wafers (we used Vanilla and Chocolate)
- Candy melts (different colors)
- Icing in a tube
- Writing gel (or edible markers)
- Candy melting pan, double boiler or disposable bags (melt candy in microwave)
You’ll want to cut the wafers to replicate the picture we created below. We used a sharp steak knife to cut our wafers and icing in a tube to glue the pieces together. We then melted the different candy melts and “painted” them on to the pieces.
We created the chalkboard first, followed by the table and chair, and then the laptop and mouse. You can color the chair with melted candy melts if you want, but we liked the way it looked without it. Get as creative as you want and use different colors! It’s ok to play with your food with this fun Back to School Craft!

HISTORY OF VOORTMAN BAKERY
I enjoy learning the history behind brands that I love and Voortman Bakery was one of them! Voortman Cookies began in 1951 when two young Dutch brothers, William and Harry Voortman, opened their first bakery in Hamilton, Ontario. It took five years of dedicated baking and hard work before a Canadian grocery chain agreed to give Voortman Cookies shelf space in their stores!
Even though their name has changed, their commitment to using simple, real ingredients has not.
